Batman: Arkham City - Coming Fall 2011

I wanted to get this on release but since Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is coming out the same month, I'll put it off until Christmas. I'm doing this for two reasons, 1) Arkham City isn't a multiplayer title, and 2) Ace Combat is at the very core of my gaming world.

I'm also pushing back my purchase of Uncharted 3 because of Battlefield 3 for the same reasons.

^Now see for me, "isn't multiplayer" is a positive trait when choosing a new game. I'm a bit funny like that, but in general I prefer not to have to jump into a cage full of diarrhoeic howler monkeys, which is about what I'd equate the average online gaming experience to. Give me single player any day.

The only multiplayer I am interested in is the kind where Player #2 is in the room with me using a second controller. I don't enjoy online play at all.

Glad the know I'm not the only one who doesn't play online multiplayer. I've tried it a couple times, but just couldn't that into it.

I got on OK with TF2 once I found a few half decent public servers and my experience with the L4D games was decidedly mixed. I also had a go at CoD MW2 some months back when they were having a "free weekend" on Steam, but it really didn't grab me (and it wasn't just the noob factor.) A few months back I tried out Champions Online to see what an MMO is like (never played one before) and it was rubbish. If that was representative of MMOs then I have no idea why they're so popular. It felt more like a really cheep singleplayer game that just so happened to have a lot of annoying NPCs darting about the place having their own separate adventures.

More recently I tried to have a go at co-op on Portal 2, but it wasn't an enjoyable experience unfortunately.

The only PS3 game I ever played online was Uncharted 2, and it drove me crazy that after each game it kicked everyone out and I had to start the next game with a whole new batch of people.
I actually spent ages playing Star Wars: Jedi Academy online on my PC, first with one group of people and then a little while later with a second, and I loved it. Ever since then I just haven't found any games that I had that much fun playing online.

Champion's Online is a pretty rubbish MMO by all reports. Try World of Warcraft or (my personal preference) Lord of the Rings Online. WoW is arguably the better game, but LOTRO has by far a better community. :)

As for Sorkin...I know this sounds like sacrilege but did anyone else think her performance in the first game to be a little *off* at times? It may sound like nitpicking and perhaps it's just me but there was something about her line reading that really stood out like a sour thumb to me. I found it particularly noticeable in the recording you find of her interviewing Joker before he turns her.

That's intentional. Harleen is putting on a more professional accent since she's trying to act like she's actually a competent psychologist rather than someone who slept with her college professor to get the Arkham gig.

I don't think so. If you listen to her delivery in 'Mad Love' *that* sounds like a more professional, natural sounding Harley. Those same lines in AA sounded more like crazy Harley acting as if she's 'acting', if you know what I mean. It was all stiff and weird.

Actually, through the magic of youtube, we can do a side by side comparison. This is from 'Mad Love' and this is from the game.

I just found the cast for Arkham City on internet movie database, and new cast members include Stana Katic (Castle's Kate Beckett) is Talia Al Ghul, Grey DeLisle (Scooby Doo's Daphne Blake since 2001, and Batman: The Brave and the Bold's Black Canary) is rumored to be Catwoman, Maurice LaMarche (Futurama's Morbo and Calculon) is Mr. Freeze. There are more, but I need to go.

Only other big new additions to the cast that I found on IMDB are Corey Burton (Clone Wars' Count Dooku, Cad Bane, and Ziro the Hutt) as Hugo Strange, Jim Piddock (who played Alfred in Under the Red Hood, and has made guest appearances on Castle, Dollhouse, Monk, Lost and a ton of other stuff) as Alfred, Troy Baker (Avengers: EMH's Clay Quartermain, and Generator Rex's Van Kleis) as Two Face. And according to the list Tara Strong (Fairly OddParent's Timmy Turner, and Superhero Squad Show's Scarlett Witch) is taking over the role of Harley Quinn.

I was looking around on Comic Book Resources last night, and I found out a 12 minute video for Arkham City. It's got gameplay for both Batman and Catwoman, and a cinematic with Batman, Catwoman, and Two-Face. Damn, CBR won't load. I'll add a link next time I can get on the page.
