Batman: Arkham City - Coming Fall 2011

Some interesting shots there. I think some of you may particularly like this one:

I can't speak for anyone else, but what has be most interested in this sequel is the purportedly higher emphasis on the crime scene puzzles.

As much fun as the first game was, I thought the forensic stuff was a little token and was little more than following various analogues for a bread crumb trail. Everything else was 100% solid. The combat and semi-free roaming exploration and big set pieces were all great; the only real miss-fire was the the whole Killer Croc sequence. I'm sure those lessons have been well learned and I'd be very surprised if Arkham City turns out to be anything less than excellent.

One thing I'd really enjoy is, at the end of the game, you can go wander around the map and still have random bad guys to fight. At the end of Arkham Asylum, I was running around the different places, but there was nothing to do. I would have loved some random goons to beat up.

I have to admit I don't have the slightest clue who Hugo Strange is, so this trailer doesn't really get me all that excited.

Professor Hugo Strange, who actually predates The Joker as one of the earliest members of Batman's rogues' gallery, is a brilliant scientist who is also a crime lord. He's one of the only characters to have deduced Batman's identity, partially because he's completely and utterly obsessed with him.

In the setting of Arkham City, Strange has been put in charge of the Arkham City environment by the new Mayor, Quincy Sharp, himself a certifiable lunatic.

To follow up, we also know that The Joker will have a primary role in the game; Mark Hamill had said that Arkham Asylum was his final performance as The Joker, but in a recent interview he confirmed his involvement in the sequel and said that the reason he signed on was because the script for the character was too good to pass up for one last go-'round.

I hope so. The original teaser from months back had a focus on the Joker and Harley, so it would be weird if they didn't have a large role.

^If you have the first game, you should find a whole profile on Hugo Strange in the unlockables, plus I think one of the Riddler challenges has you getting into his office just off the library.

You may be right. I haven't played it since last year, and I honestly never paid that much attention to the character profiles.

Or better yet, go right to the source! ;)

Though I did really like how the batmobile turned out, I must admit I never like it when the designers have exposed engine parts and the like. I've always felt the best versions (West, Burton, TAS, TNBA & Beyond) are the ones that make the thing look more or less seamless. All those exhausts, intakes and piston heads just make it look like some crazy hotrod where (in my mind at least) there should be a degree of mystery about exactly what's under the hood.

Or that, sure. :p I wanted to give credit where it was due, since io9 was responsible for me seeing the art in the first place.
