I was perfectly satisfied with that ending, although I wish they hadn't killed Chick.
I was really caught off guard, as I assumed they would stick to the Psycho mythology. I kept asking "how the hell is he going to get out of this?" And the answer is of course...he didn't.
When Norman was dying in Dylan's arms, and he sees Norma and says thank you...
I'm really glad that Dylan and Emma had a happy ending. I'm even okay with Romero's ending.
Freddie Highmore did an outstanding job in this role. When I first heard that they were making a Psycho prequel, and Norman Bates was going to be played by Charlie Bucket, I thought that sounded ridiculous. He proved me wrong. Bigly. He was perfect in that role, making him sympathetic to a degree I would not have guessed possible.
