BATES MOTEL--Season 4 (SPOILERS)

No, not without precedent, but to my mind most TV remakes/continuations from then past were quick, cheap cash grab garbage. Now it seems like the other way around.

Was The Exorcist cancelled? Damn. I really enjoyed it.

I don't think it's been cancelled yet. Last I heard it was "on the bubble" but its prospects didn't sound good.

TIME AFTER TIME, on the head, is well and truly dead already.

Not entirely without precedent. Look at MASH, ALICE, THE ODD COUPLE, STARGATE . . . and BUFFY.

But, yeah, FARGO and BATES both turned out great. Haven't seen 12 MONKEYS yet.

(A moment of silence, though, for DAMIEN and THE EXORCIST. :) )

Fargo and Bates Motel are two of my favorite shows... you should really check out 12 Monkeys though. It's pretty entertaining (even if a lot of the time travel mechanics make your head hurt thinking about them :) )

Also, I now have NO idea where they're going to go with this show now. The little twist with Marion and Sam Loomis I didn't see coming, and now ex-Sheriff Romero officially doesn't give a fuck  I still can't help but think all of this is going to pinned on either Dylan or Romero (considering a murder occurred at the house while Norman was locked up).

I don't really get it, was that just to up the body count, to show Romero really lost it? Kinda weird plot decision.

I thought it was because he was mythologizing Norman, turning him into an epic figure and excusing his murder of Norma while also using Norma's death for his own financial advantage.

Makes sense, I just didn't think Romero was at the point of dontgiveashitanymore-crusade yet. In hindsight I should have seen it coming.

Romero shows up looking to kill Norman at last, only to find out he's too late and Norman is out of reach. Then Chick makes of mistake of chortling over how great all of this is for his book.

Not what Romero wanted to hear at that moment . . . .

I'm afraid there isn't enough time left to wrap this all up. Are they going going to find Caleb?

Im glad Emma is getting so much screen time but I hate whatt this is doing to her and Dylan. Madelyn confronting Dylan was brilliant but fr Emma to blame him was heartbreaking when she knows better than anyone the dynamics that went on in that family.

One more ep to go, and it looks like it's coming down to Norma (or maybe Mother) against Romero . . . .

And is it just me or is Madeleine looking more and more like a classic Hitchcock Blonde? (I'm assuming her name is a homage to VERTIGO.)

"Well, I disagree." Now that's some alternative fact.
Positively heartbreaking finale, I liked it alot.

A good, satisfying finale.

And I was pleased that Robert Bloch finally got a nice credit at the very end, even if it flashed by fairly quickly. . .

Meh.

They were too busy trying to romanticize the Norman/Norma legend to bring any real money to the final episode.

The After Bates special had a fantastic line from Vera during an interview...

"In the scene where they are burying me, Nestor and Freddie are talking crap about me, like kindergarteners, they're just picking on me, they're really mean to me. There's only one real Explanation... ...They both have insane crushes on me, and don't know how to handle it."

Meh. I found it disappointing, but most series finale's are. The Shield is still the high-water mark for ending a show right, IMO.

There is always too much hype. Too much personal bias and expectations. To me, Norman should have survived that shot, Dylan should have died, and the ending should have been him talking as Norma combing his hair as the door closed in a mental hospital for the criminally insane, seeing him through the window. Not giving him (and Dylan) ostensibly happy endings.

Of course, I thought Emma and Dylan should have been his big victims last year. They outlived their usefulness to the story and had to be forced back in here as is. It should have been the Loomis woman (and Marion's twin!) at the end looking for him, not Dylan. Instead, the entire looms storyline was unceremoniously dropped and underutilized.

Romero's only purpose all year was breaking Norman out of prison. Maybe they should have stuck to the movie a little more and just not have had him arrested at that point - which, again, is due to shoe horning in Dylan when he didn't need to be there.

No Dylan, no confession, no arrest, more satisfying Loomis arc, less "happy" ending for all the Bates.

Newhart is the high-water mark for series finales.

This one was good. So much more I want to write, but it's just too soon, and I hate seeing the spoiler code, because I know it's more than just me who'll go read it.

I really enjoyed it. There have been better episodes along the way but I was mostly happy with how it ended.

It was really strange watching season five one episode at a time after Netflixing the first four seasons just a couple of months ago.
