Bana's Make-up in Star Trek XI

I still think the blantantly roman name is a dead giveaway.

...but maybe that's just what Abrams wants us to think!

Romulan or not?
Kurtzman answers this question or almost.
"Nero isn’t necessarily a Romulan. It’s all part of the plot"
I thought in Shinzon. Oh boy.

What kind of doublespeak is that by Kurtzman?
Unless Nero's a Romulan from a parallel universe or alternate timeline or something. So he's not one of "our" Romulans.

I seem to recall that they've been careful all along about that. There are Romulans, and the chief baddie is Nero, but no one connected with the movie has ever said that Nero is a Romulan. Or have they?

True. What's been confirmed is all Romulans in the movie are bald-headed (like Nero), and they have no forehead ridges (which Nero has -- we just don't know if it's genetic or by disfigurement). Also, at least part of the reason for making Romulans bald was to distinguish them from the Vulcans, so the Romulans must have pointed ears. Which, of course, Nero doesn't.

One picture. So many puzzles. As of now, I'm putting my money on him being a "yet-to-be-identified" alien.

There are supposed to be tribbles in the movie. Maybe there's a defining scene where a tribble freaks out around Nero. McCoy approaches him with a tricorder and exclaims, "Jim, this man is a Klingon!" Wait. That's been done.

Ok, heres my 2 pence.

I thought that Nero is a Romulan from the 24th Century who is going back in time to mess up Kirk somehow.

I recon they will make him a proper Romulan (forehead and all) then he will have cosmetic surgery, or he has birth defects which make him have a flat forehead, or hes an evil Vulcan, or hes a Romulan from Kirks era (60’s tv show) that goes into the future and then goes back in time to when the new films set.

The only thing that matters to me personally is that the other Romulans on his crew are the ones we know and love from Next Gen/Ds9 etc era and they explain (even if its one sentence) why he looks like he does.

Personally, I think Nero is a full blooded Vulcan. My theory is that he's Spock's son with Saavik. She was supposed to be pregnant at the beginning of TVH, but the scene got cut.

They already did the "not really a Romulan" thing in Nemesis.

That may true... but something tells me, well, this time it'll make sense ;) I don't see any Remans rearing their Nosferatu ugly faces this go around and even if Nero himself isn't a Romulan the Romulans shall at least be the heavies they weren't in NEM.

God, can you imagine if some human were surgically-altered to resemble a Romulan for some nefarious reason?

I mean...seriously! Think about it! ;)

I'm reasonable sure we've been told outright "no forehead bumps" if that that's what you meant by the above statement I don't think you're gonna get what you expect or want.

He's not Romulan. I have been saying that over and over. Now Kurtzman confirmed that at Trek Movie. I am telling you he is Klingon.

I have... friends, who are "in the know."

Take that for what you will, but it's the truth. This is how I know he is Klingon.

I don't believe you. :)

If you turn out to be right, I'll still think that you were lying but got lucky.

thing is - if he's hiding his Romulan nature - why would he alter his ears with a blunt knife rather than getting 24th century technology to do it?

We don't know that he's from the 24th century.

That's true - however if Spock is going back in time to stop him - why would he stop a natural occurance?

Well, Nero could have been instructed to change the timeline by people in the future (AKA the Silik). And Spock (AKA Daniels) could have gone back in time to make sure that the timeline isn't messed up. Who knows how much he'll enlist the help of the Enterprise NCC-1701 (NX-01) crew for help?!?!?!

I concur.

If Vulcans and Romulans are the same species, what gives with the bumpy heads? That always bothered me. I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

Bumps are for chumps.

But let's not turn this into a forehead debate, it could get awfully "bumpy." ;)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Once the film comes out I have the green light to reveal my source. Then you'll enjoy the crow pie. ;)

Also, this isn't the only Trek world source I have. Just the one that gave me this info. Some of you already know who I am and know of other Trek projects I have worked on as well. I have never tried to be rude about this whole Klingon/Romulan thing, I am just telling the truth.

There's another big reveal I know of as well, but I think that I will let that be a surprise.

I will share this though. The communicators that they use in this movie were made by Nokia and were intended to be fully functional prototypes when used in the movie, but they couldn't finish the fully functional version in time for shooting, so they are just static. After the film comes out, look for them to be available from Nokia as a promotional item/product tie-in.

I myself am not working on the New Trek movie. But many of my contemporaries are or were.

I have nothing to gain by lying about this tidbit. It's not polite to lie nor is it polite to call someone a liar unless you have solid evidence of such.

i'm just confused, i still think Nero is a Romulan or a Vulcan who is the leader of some sort of anti reunification cult from the 24th century or some sort of guy hell bent on revenge for Shinzon's death , but that would have nothing to do with Kirk or revenge for Kirk stealing the cloaking device. i'm really lost becouse he clearly has raised eye brows and fore head ridge, so Kurtzman could simply be fucking with us. What we do know is revenge is involved, acording to the interview with Nimoy on trek movie. I think they are just trying to keep us gussing, but they dont want to admit that we figured it out somewhere along the line. Comic Con is this weekend, so the truth will be revealed whether or not there really is a Star Trek panel or Star Trek related things
