Bad news everyone - Futurama travesty in the making

That's annoying. Hopefully Fox will all die a horrible horrible death.

And then Futurama be picked up by another network.

Incredibly stupid, I guess the show really is dead, i consider the movies a travesty.

Luckily the movies were mostly great, so you needn't worry about the quality of the new episodes!

The show isn't dead. As others have said, they tried to do this same thing with The Simpsons and it didn't work. This is a negotiating ploy, a bluff to try to convince the actors to settle for less money. And it's a bluff that the actors and their agents are going to call, with help from the fanbase.

This will definitely be the way it goes. It's a stupid negotiating tactic and everyone is seeing through it. I highly doubt that Groening and Cohen would continue the show with different voice talent and the fandom's ill will towards the move would be enormous.

Recast Futurama?! :wtf: Next thing you know they'll be using "lens flare" and blowing up Amphibios 9.

What a bunch of idiots....

The thing about this negotiation is that the voice cast of Futurama doesn't have the clout of the Simpsons cast. That's where it could go wrong.

And is ther Variety article right? Enquiring minds would like to know.

Well if they are recast, then i'm another person to add to the list of those who wont be watching or supporting the new series.

And considering how Fox has messed about with the cast and crew of Futurama over the years, i cant say im surprised they would try to pull something like this.

You know what we should do, right? We should all send genuine voice auditions. They don't give us a script to audition with, so I guess we have to write our own. We can write our audition script about how we won't watch Futurama without the original actors.

That would be funny but would your audition even be considered or even listened to if you are not a SAG member?

Negotiating tactic by CHEAP assholes. This won't happen. If it did, Fox would be the laughing stock of all time. They are going to make boatloads of cash - JUST PAY YOUR VOICE ACTORS.

FOX has smoked themselves retarted, I thought Comedy Central was picking up the new eps? Yeah comic con panell will let them have it and I will refuse to watch if they do that

Comedy Central wanted more episodes, but it's still a Fox show and Fox still has the right to show the new episodes before CC. CC only has the cable syndicated rights.

And they pay one actor and he does 10 voices, so that should be cheaper than paying 10 different people. Plus if this goes through the ratings will suck and the DVD sales will be next to none. Fox is making a crap load off the DVD sets and the movies, just pay the people!

Boy, the Professor really hit it on the nose when he said, "The NEW morons at FOX"...

We should ALL e-mail that address with a voice recording immitating a character, saying we will not watch or buy the DVDs and also voice our displeassure with the move.

I hope Fox's plan blows up in their face and the original actors return. I wouldn't watch Futurama with a new voice cast, especially under circumstances like this.

Not quite. What confuses the issue is that there are different entities here with the same name. 20th Century Fox Television is a production company, a separate corporation from the Fox Broadcasting Company, which is a television network. They're both owned by the Fox Entertainment Group, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch, but they're still two different entities. They only share a common name because of their common ownership. The production company can sell shows to any network, not just the FBC. For instance, 20th Century Fox Television's shows over the past few years have included ABC's Life on Mars, NBC's Journeyman, USA's Burn Notice, and Cartoon Network's Star Wars Clone Wars (the 2D-animated one from a few years back).

I note that Hermes hasn't been replaced. Slimy bugger, probably bent real low in the contract negotiations.

Probably not, since Phil "Hermes" LaMarr is, you may have noticed upthread, the one who spilled it and said that we'd all best assist the actors in sticking it to the sons of bitches.
There's a reason why LaMarr's characters are not listed. Technically, Phil LaMarr has only ever been credited as a guest star, never as a regular cast member. Ditto for Lauren Tom and Dave Herman, whose characters are also unmentioned in that casting sheet. The characters listed are all played by actors listed as "Starring" or "Also Starring".

PS-- Fuck FOX with a rusty suicide booth. I sure won't watch if they dare recast.

All I remember is that Fox can show the episodes before CC does because it's in their contract.

^ I remember that was the deal between FOX and Cartoon Network for Family Guy. It is possible that FOX and Comedy Central had/have a similar deal worked out, but I don't know for sure. I figure if they did, FOX would have had the rights to show the DVD movies first before Comedy Central. I dunno.
