Bad Dubbing of Trek Shows

We had it in another thread. Good and bad episode titles. We talked about bad translations either, especially in the German dubbings of TOS episodes.

There are funny examples of bad dubbing:

1. DS9: Jadzia Dax says in the German dubbing of the episode 'Nor the Battle to the Strong' Lambada Cluster instead of Lembatta Cluster.

I'd like to have seen Dax dancing Lambada with Worf....:D  :klingon:

Not to mention the bad pronounciation of Gowron (Gahron). They pronounced his name better in TNG.
Winn was Wunn (Wounn) in one episode.

2. TOS: Miri. The Onlies were translated as Kleinling. Where the heck did they come up with it?

3. The holo Doc says in Timeless: Let's tempt fate (Lassen Sie uns das Schicksal versuchen. No one would say that because it is Schicksal herausfordern).

I guess there are ample other examples also from other languages. I'd like to have something to laugh about...:D

Surely the DVDs have the different languages already available? I seem to remember watching Mudd's women in Spanish or German once years back!

How does Spock sound in Spanish? I only can judge English vs. German as to proper translations of terms. I only know a few French oder Italian words. I should give it a try.

I can't remember to be honest, it was in 2004 after I got the first season on DVD! I think I only watched the scene with Kirk and Mudd talking and Kirk was so ordinary while Mudd was a deeper tone than normal!

Oh and then there is Dr Crusher saying "What´s this garbage I´m seeing there..." when the original is "What´s this mist I´m seeing"..... "mist" is a false friend to the german word "Mist"..which means garbage / junk / manure.... But the problem is the correct translation speaking of a "Nebel" (Was ist das für ein Nebel den ich da sehe..) would not fit into the lip movements...so they decided to go with "mist"...well it gets the overall meaning of the scene across.

That's the problem. Lip movement. Let's tempt fate said the Holo Doc to Harry Kim. Lassen Sie uns das Schicksal versuchen was the German translation. No one would ever say that in German, because it's a kind of idiom. Das Schicksal herausfordern (challenge) would be correct.
