Back to the Future pt.2

Your favourite part of BTTF II

When one thinks of the BTTF Trilogy it's easy to see Part 1 as 1955, Part 3 as 1885, and Part 2 as 2015.
When actually the 2015 segment only makes approximately one third of the movie, the others been 1985-A and 1955 again (I believe 1955 actually clocks in at the longest too)

So simple question, of the three segments in the film which is your favourite? ie which works the best?

Now BTTF 2 is easily in my Top 5 films of all time, love it all to bits. But I'd have to go with the 2015 stuff as the most enjoyable. Hoverboards, power laces, self-drying jackets, the Café 80s, Griff, flying cars, etc, what's not to love?

"You mean you have to use your hands? That's like a baby's toy!"
"Baby's toy?"

I love the alternate 1985 section. It's so dark, and twisted, and so different from the bubbly nostalgia of the first film. I love that, too, of course, but the sequel managed to do something a little different, especially in that section.

2 is definitely my least favorite. It's so gaudy and over-the-top as to be completely silly. (Flying cars? Jaws 19? :guffaw: ) I said this before: It looks like somebody threw up My Little Pony.

But I suspect that was the point. 2015 as depicted in the film was probably supposed to be like that, to illustrate how absurd many concepts of the future were.

1955. Nothing quite like interacting with moments from the previous movies, and teenage Biff Tannen is one of the greatest villains in moviedom. 1985 and 2015 were just too cartoony. I just can't get over how ridiculous the situation is with George McFly in 2015 and Griff isn't terribly interesting. 1985 is just a short set piece to show where the messup was and could have been easil more developed, though.

I love George McFly in 2015
"Oh out on the golf course!" His camp voice just makes me laugh. And why is he upside down on that thing?

I read at the time it was because Crispin Glover was not available to play George. They got around having a different actor playing him with the whole "he's upside down so you cannot really tell" gag.

I just checked imdb and yes, he is played by a different actor.

^ I know, I meant in the reality of the film. I always thought it was because his back was fucked or something :)

Oh, I get what you mean.

It did seem strange at the time, too. I guess you can look at it as one those, "We are presenting a reality with all its strange and freaky happenings and there is SO much going on here, we haven't got time to explain everything to you."

I kinda like that approach. It almost makes it like a "slice of life" view, that we are getting a quick look in through the window and that's it - not everything is overly explained to us.

And yeah - I always assumed it was a back problem thing, but there was one thing that kinda bugged me with the "covering up the new actor" thing. If they went to this much trouble to hide the fact that Glover was no longer playing George, why wasn't Elizabeth Shue upside down too?

In fact, does not Marlene ask Grandma Lorraine what happened to Grandpa, and Lorraine says he threw out his back again?

2 was never my favorite, I was a big fan of 3.

I like Alternate 1985 the best, especially the powerful wealthy Biff.

"Two Mcflys.....with the same gun!!!"

in the future scenes, Griff has a female member of his gang, some tough-looking chick that actually beats up Marty Jr. in the cafe. However, unfortunately, during the Hoverboard chase, the stuntwomen doubling for her seriously injured herself, and you can see it when she hits the pillar at the end of the hoverboard chase

As much as I like the campy "future" scenes and the twisted alternative 1985, I'm going to have to vote for Marty coming back FROM the future, to 1955, and revisiting all those favourite scenes from the first movie again. :bolian:

And yeah, I'm also in the camp who likes part 3 a lot. Still, the first movie remains my favourite... :guffaw:

Yeah, I had a look last night. I must have forgot about that line; too busy laughing at Future George McFly's camp voice
"You're right, well you're right!"

The future! Frankly I didn't really care about the rest of the movie. I just wanted to see the future stuff. And I *really* didn't care for #3 because I don't like old westerns.

I thought Back to the Future Part 2 was the worst sequel of all time. I wanted to see much more of the future, but instead we get forced to be nostalgic.

But yet, I think Back to the Future Part 3 is one of the best sequels of all time.

I don't think that was the only reason, or indeed any reason. Didn't Jeffrey Weissman still play 'normal' George (i.e. not upside down) when 1985 was changed back to normal at the end of BTTF II?

If TPTB really wanted to use George's injury as an excuse why Glover wasn't there, they would have probably just had him in the hospital and not seen at all.
