Babylon 5

Kristopher Carter's work on Batman Beyond is frickin awesome, so I can't wait to hear what's in B5

I can't find it now (I thought it was either in this thread or JMS on Twitter) but it came down to Franke being retired in a remote area. Or maybe just retired. I can't remember the specifics. I'm sure Jan knows.

Again, I have to say I really love this animation style.

Also...is that a diagram of a Gaim behind Dr. Franklin?

Here's what JMS said in May:
May 11

At 70, Chris Franke is semi- to mostly-retired...he's doing one thing for a German company, and as he explained recently, that's all he has the bandwidth for right now. That said, the music in the movie is absolutely in line with what was done before.

Behind Franklin reminds me more of a pak'ma'ra than a Gaim?

I'll hold off criticizing the CG-for-cell look...what will determine how cheap it looks is how the models move.
Adequate is all I ask, the story is most important. ...And the acting, I guess. ;)
Hopefully the new voices for so many of the characters are good ones.

After how other B5 projects have gone, and from what I've seen so far, I have doubts, but I shall hope for the best!

Here's what JMS said in May:
Much obliged! That's exactly the tweet I recalled. I tried to find it but their search engine couldn't pull it up and I wasn't in the mood for the infinite scroll.

So I was partially right with both retirement and remoteness (head space anyways).

You were entirely right. And I loved that JMS did apparently contact Franke to do the music. In another thread about the music CDs, JMS mentioned that WB owns the music so I've wondered if there might be a chance we might get some familiar passages. Hope so!

Fair enough. I haven't watched that show in many years so I barely recall its music beyond (no pun intended) its theme.
Well given that Batman Beyond's musical style could broadly be described as a mix of synth and orchestral (plus industrial rock), and that also applies to much of Franke's work (sans rock), I'd say that's as good a substitution as one might ask for!

Granted the Batman Beyond soundtrack is over two decades old at this point, and they've no doubt advanced their craft in that time, it still indicates a firm footing in the kind of music B5 is best known for, or at the very least, something that's compatible. ;)

And today's drop is a six-second teaser for the full trailer tomorrow.

We've got narration!

Sheridan: I was there.

Ivanova or Delenn, probably?: I was there.

Franklin, probably?: At the dawn...

Londo: ...of the Third Age.

And clips in a box, for safety (step one, describe the clip in a box...)

A man and a woman in Earth Alliance uniforms from behind, looking out the Babylon 5 Observation Dome window. Outside, a Shadow cruiser is looming, and the camera zooms in on it.

Close-up of the face of a man piloting a Starfury (Sinclair, maybe?).

A Shadow fighter chases a Starfury through Babylon 5's superstructure.

Multiple Starfuries near B5, some being shot down by pursuing Shadow fighters.

Ivanova, in an EA uniform, fires a PPG on the B5 Observation Dome. She has cuts and scrapes on her face.

Six Shadows make their way across a long bridge in an industrial-looking complex, maybe B5's docking bays. They have some kind of energy shields and are exchanging fire with others off-screen. The lead Shadow is hit and tumbles over the railing off the bridge.

Ugh....I hate teasers for trailers. I don't blame JMS for this but it's still so damn obnoxious.

I would say the voices were Sheridan, Ivanova, Franklin, and Londo. I assume the Starfury pilot is Sheridan considering its his voiceover at that moment, specifically saying "I was there."

Yeah, I'll wait for the full thing. Not a fan of drip-feed promotion.

"Zathras warned but no one listens to Zathras." :(

Looks like it's going to be a lot of fun visiting old friends in new realities. I can't wait. :D

That said, someone at Amazon messed up by posting the trailer there prematurely when JMS said the announcement would happen at noon East Coast.
