Jeez.![]()
I was actually talking about B5, not DS9.That was pretty much how I thought of the show. Season 5 was a nice way to deal with the ramifications of the war and some of the other plot threads.
And I actually really like What You Leave Behind.![]()
So was I. I guess I should have separated the comment about WLB a bit more, since it was a totally unconnected though.I was actually talking about B5, not DS9.
Sad news that Ron Thornton, the VFX/CGI wiz of Babylon 5 has passed away after a long illness. From a previous fundraising page:
Ron will always have the gratitude of the B5 community. From all reports he was a wonderful man and mentor to many.
Captain Power (most likely where he first encountered Doug Netter and JMS), Buffy, Enterprise, Voyager, Doctor Who and many many more.I'm sad to hear this. May he rest in peace. I also understand that he worked on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Star Trek Voyager".
They definitely did not take full advantage of the premise, that's for sure. They did some really good episodes over the years, but the reticence to truly commit to the premise and a stubborn refusal to really get into certain character's backstories was a constant source of frustration for me.
The death of Trip was pointless and, unfortunately, a sign of the times. Let's celebrate the finale by killing off a major character. Great. I was fine with the historical holodeck aspect, but it should have been Riker and Troi giving some cadets a history lesson or something, not shoehorned into "Pegasus." And I completely agree about the character development-- five years and nobody even got a promotion? Instead of killing off Trip, how about marrying off Hoshi and Travis or something? We live in such a bloodthirsty age.By 1) by cutting out the "Trip dies of terminal contrivance" plot. And 2) removing the Riker/Troi 'Pegasus' subplot all together, or saving the reveal that it was all a holodeck simulation until the very end, but keep in shots of Riker hovering in the background as an extra throughout the episode, but don't draw attention to it.
That'd leave a good 20 minute hole in the runtime with which they'd have to fit (*shock horror!*) character development.
How sad.Sad news that Ron Thornton, the VFX/CGI wiz of Babylon 5 has passed away after a long illness.
I love Babylon 5, too. Has anyone heard something new about the reboot?
By the way, having watched Season 3 again lately, i wonder how did President Clark's rise to power exactly happen? What exactly happened on earth and how did he keep his control of the military, even after the informations about his role in Santiago's death have been released?
I asked him about it July at San Diego Comic-Con. He's still working on building up 'street cred' for his Studio JMS in order to attract the investors he needs. Obviously things haven't gone as quickly as originally planned and that's due in part to two major eye surgeries he's had in the last year or so. Here's a (very shaky-sorry) video where he talks about the eye thing and leaving comics. The question I asked isn't on the vid.I love Babylon 5, too. Has anyone heard something new about the reboot?
Vague threats of 'alien threats' about to be unleashed mostly. From the very beginning we saw the 'Earth First' and related movements that were gaining power. Clark used that fear.By the way, having watched Season 3 again lately, i wonder how did President Clark's rise to power exactly happen? Gee. That sounds eerily familiar.Vague threats of 'alien threats' about to be unleashed mostly. From the very beginning we saw the 'Earth First' and related movements that were gaining power. Clark used that fear.
JMS always said that among other things, the show was about process. When you see how Earth fell under martial law and watch 'The Illusion of Truth' you can get shivers. Probably shouldn't go any further with this, though.Gee. That sounds eerily familiar.
