Babylon 5 viewing order

Reverend, spoiler your first paragraph, Distorted Humor hasn't gotten that far yet, and doesn't know the exact nature of it.

Is he not? My mistake. I've edited my post so with luck he hasn't read it yet.

Yea, he mentioned Learning Curve last. Not a major spoiler even if he did catch it, but, still a little mystery that will continue for a few episodes. :techman:

It can be difficult sometimes with remembering every little piece of all the puzzles that were revealed at exactly which point

I watching for Londo, G'Kar, and Garibaldi right now...

As for Lennier. Honestly (without getting into details) I think he has more to do in season 5 than any other season
Indeed, in fact sometimes I think it's a bit too Lennier heavy. But the good news is that once the telepath stuff is out of the way, Londo, G'Kar, and Garibaldi also form the core of this season's action.

And DH, Marcus got to "must watch" status for you? I remember you didn't much like him at first! :)

I liked his humor, I think when he sang Major General and the pike fight is when his status grew a lot with me.

As for the spoiler, seeing Delenn's reaction, that is what I was suspecting, so it wasn't a major spoiler (I happened to see it before it was spoilered up :) )

Aw well, yea, it's not like anyone spoiled in the Series Finale where they... ;) :guffaw:

Ok, watched a few more episodes....

Strange Relations - Yawn...Lyta joins a cult. failed attempt on Londo's life. I really really didn't care for this episode. It was a rare epsiode that was boring. And I double dislike Lockley.

Secrets of the Soul - ok, this one is a lot better, starting off with a vomit gag, And I like the doctor so him going on a medical mystery will catch my attention. Lyta has nice boobs now, and her or her stunt double backside looks nice as well. Of course, the bit where you see what the Vorlon's have done and I am thinking "ok, the vorlons weapons are going to blow up in everyones face."

Day of the Dead - Horay, a good epsiode! It was nice to see the girl from the ground pounder episode, and it seemed to be a bow to let us see some old friends of sorts. Morden coming as Linnier ghost seemed forced. I think its official in my hate of Lockley, as even with her meeting cute Zoe, my two thoughts where other then the actress was cute, but I cared more for the dead that never had showed up before (zoe) and the girl that showed up one time in GROPOS then I do with the women who is a main role. I guess Penn and Teller where big back then.

Of course, Kosh line was very Kosh-like and interests me.

Rewatching the show, I have to admit, Neroon is a bit of a badass. His scenes with Marcus truly save "Grey 17 is Missing" from being a total pile of crap.

Damn skippy.

BTW, Distorted ... remember back when we discussed I think "Deconstruction of Falling Stars" that Lyta would have a line of interest? It's gong to be coming up before too long ..... ;)

It's funny seeing the guest star roles from actors that were in shows I watched (or at least knew of) after Babylon 5 went off the air. For example, Malcolm's dad/Walter White as the Ranger Sheridan sends to die with the information intended to draw the Shadows into the final fight. And now, I'm watching "No Surrender, No Retreat" where Sheridan takes on Dr. Kelso!

I remember someone once saying that whenever they saw that episode, they couldn't help but think of "Malcolm in the Middle" when Sheridan asked Ericsson if he had a family. It put him agreeing to go on a suicide mission in a whole new light.

Well I started my latest run through of B5 months ago, but only just now caught up to Distorted Humor...

In the Kingdom of the Blind is the first episode of season 5 I really like. I had forgotten how wonderfully creepy and foreboding it is. I just wish some of this had happened earlier. Like, in episode 5x01. ;)

I am quick like that...and I plan to get the B5 ball rolling tomarrow.

In the Kingdom of the Blind - Ok, it took nine episodes, but this is once again classic Babylon 5. I still do not care for the telepath storyline, but Londo and G'kar on C. Prime is classic stuff. G'kar and Londo both shine in this episode, and I found them slowly working though the royal politics as riveting stuff.

I am going to try to be a little slower on the episodes, as I only have a few left.

You're going to slow down just as the story starts speeding up?

JMS apparently had similar thoughts to those above; he said in the script books that "In the Kingdom of the Blind" was the first episode of season five that he felt like he was writing Babylon 5 again.

edit: here's a bit of what he said

I probably should have jumped right into the Londo story

I get what he's saying, but "No Compromises," to me, at least the part about the assassin is very reminiscent of season 3. Granted not the better episodes, but like "Convictions" and "Ceremonies of Light and Dark," we have a criminal disrupting life on the station, slipping by security, and Garibaldi there to pull up information on their past. Of course, it also introduces the new status quo, so in that regard, then, yeah, maybe it wasn't the same as writing a season 1-4 episode.

Anyway, with "No Compromises," I've entered the last part of my re-watch and I'm trying to be more forgiving this time around. Though I've watched the episodes several times, I don't think I've watched them straight through, in order, since seeing them on TNT in 1998. I've found that many of the episodes I thought to be weak were more enjoyable on this re-watch, with several years separating the last time I saw the and now. Even then, though I tried to watch each episode twice (at least season 3-4 episodes, when I made a point of watching the original airing and the re-run during the same weekend).

^ agreed, and one reason why I am slowing down is I am playing Mass Effect (video game)

It's not so bad. The one friend I got to watch B5 became distracted by other things and stopped watching right before Severed Dreams! It's been a few years now and still frustrates me! :guffaw:

Walter Koenig is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year! While Star Trek made him famous, Babylon 5 really showcased what a great actor he is. While most of the time, when I see an actor that was famous in something else take on a new role, all I can think of is that actor's previous role.

For instance, though I've seen Tricia Helfer in numerous shows, such as Burn Notice, I always think of her as Six. Same with Patrick Stewart, as every role I see him in, such as Claudius in Hamlet, I keep thinking, "Wow, that's Captain Picard in that role!"

I never think of that when I see Bester. I have to consciously remember that Bester is played by the actor who played Chekov. Walter really outdid himself in his creation of Bester, down to his mannerisms, speech patterns, and even his conscious choice to make Bester's left hand useless.

JMS said it best in response to a comment saying he was on an anti-typecasting crusade:
That's actually true, in a lot of ways. My sense is that here we have many actors who created enduring works because they were good at what they did; they're *good actors*. But because they were so good at it, they got typecast as only able to play that. How many people snickered, wrongly, when they heard Walter was going to be Bester? "Chekhov in the Psi Corps," was the usual lament.

Until they *saw* him. And saw what he could do.

To work against the typecasting is simply payment on a debt to those who created enduring characters. And I'll continue to do it wherever and whenever I can.

and

Chekov is just one character, which was created by another, and played by Walter. Agreed, too many people have seen him as just this one person; but there's a talented actor with a great range behind that character, able to do *many* other things. I'm glad we've been able to let him show that range a little.

Good for Walter, I have been impressed by Bester,

Speaking of Bester, I feel asleep in watching the next episode, so I will have to rewatch it...
