Babylon 5 viewing order

So, Wednesday was always a fantastic night, B5 and DS9 (No DS9 vs B5 war in my viewing :D )

As with most conflicts, the rhetoric is spewed most loudly by those who do not know both sides of the story.
Pardon me but...huh? Conflict? Rhetoric? What sides of what story? Sindatur just finished saying he watched both shows and didn't have to choose.

Jan

Exactly.

Glad I was not around for the DS9/B5 "Rivals" as I happen to enjoy both of them very much...

Now have seasons 1,3, and 5 on DVD, and season 2 and 4 in the mail. whoohoo. After I finish B5 I will be rewatching Ds9 or go though and watch Farscape all the way though for the first time.

Sure, that's one possibility. Another is, you'll finish the series and go right back to the pilot and start all over again immediately, this time noticing all the set-up you didn't catch the first time.

Well, I will be doing that too, but not at the same speed I have with the first run though...

Ok, finished Season 4....

Intersections in Real Time
- I actually thought this was a lackluster episode, I just thought it was ok, nothing special as for whatever reason, I didn't expect any long term effects due to this.

Between the Darkness and the Light
- Much better episode, a good amount happens, and I want to say I love B5 Mars bits. It seems very real to me in some odd way. The battle bits where Fun, though the speech was over the top. But that is Susan for ya. The Mars girl who leads them to the tunnel is very cute, and Marjorie Monaghan does a good job as Number one.

Endgame - the actress who plays random resistance girl in the bunker looks far too much like the killed telepath that was hired by eggers. This is of course a good episode, and Now Marcus has gone off and done something stupid.

Rising Star - a good wrap up of the season, It has the action, and the slow parts, all that you need as it wraps up the season.

The Deconstruction of Falling Stars - This is a nice little episode, feels like 3-4 set pieces, I grinned that when Garibaldi reprogrammed the computer...The last bit was intriguing (Humans are now almost Vorlons). I thought the bit with a very old Delenn was the weakest bit of it. I caught the nazi style symbol on the scientists lapel.

The quote in your signature; great little outake that .

So, onto Season Five. I look forward to hearing what you think. As I'm sure you know by now, it's quite a controversial season; personally I love it, though some others think it weaker than the rest. I'm hoping you'll enjoy it - I've certainly enjoyed reading your reviews (reviewlets?) of seasons 1-4.:)

I think the connotation of that segment with the holograms was supposed to be more generally Orwellian than specifically Nazi. For one thing, the character is talking in 'newspeak'.
Oh and if you've ever watched Alien Nation, that actor should look somewhat familiar. ;)

Not a spoiler, but..... some time later in S5 Lyta will say something that you may or may not connect with this episode. But when we get there I will be sure to poke you about it, nonetheless. :D

Regarding the Delenn bit, what did you find to be weak about it?

Regarding the Delenn bit, what did you find to be weak about it?

I thought that due to her playing a older Delenn the makeup or acting made the bits flat, that she just said "he was a good man" basicly, but kept repeating it, and it was telegraphed a bit into it.

Though I must say, the Susan bit where she a wreck after what Marcus did (sadly, as a young man, I might of done something that stupid for a girl that I adored but she didn't care for me) I ended up giggling as there are some REALLY funny lines in that, such as god with a britsh accent and how she should of boffed him one time.

The "Telepath war" worries me as that is hard to make it not groanworthy. Now bester is ace, but he a villan and has a lot of other abilities, and Alexander is cool since she been modified into a Vorlon weapon of sorts. But squinting is a sign of bad eyesight, not good drama, and you are going to need compelling characters and decent actors if they show a telepaths battling it out.

As i said before, something on how they showed mars I just enjoy, I almost would want to see a series based off the mars as shown on B5...

Eh, it's not that bad. I didn't even notice how bad it was until people here told me I was supposed to think it was bad.

It's not the Telepath War storyline that was bad. It was Byron and the fact that he makes you want to punch, shoot him, then kick his dead body twice.

Um, spoilers? DH hasn't started season 5 yet, so we probably shouldn't skew the view of certain characters or events for him.

This might in effect be a "counter-spoiler" but.... what you will see in S5 is not what has been referred to as the "Telepath War".

At least you're prepared. :p

Hooboy! :borg:

I don't think it'll be too much of a spoiler to say that we never see the *actual* Telepath War as it doesn't *really* take off until after season 5, so you really needn't worry. I will say however that the Psi Corps books give a very good representation of the really quite complex internal divisions between human telepaths and it's not just a black and white "the evil Psi Cops and the noble blips."
You've already seen that there's more than one faction at work within the Corps (the ones working with the Shadows) and they don't have the same agenda as Bester and his allies, hence his willingness to work with B5 when it suited him.

Without giving too much away, the intent was to reveal the details of the conflict in Crusade (one of the main characters is a teep and fought for one particular side.) In a sense it'd be like how the Earth-Minbari War was for B5. Not something that we ever see much of, but it is important to the background. Of course since Crusade never really got a chance to tell it's story, so when it comes to the Telepath War we're left with a lot of questions and only a scattering of incomplete answers.

There was also talk of the telepath war being the subject of a feature film someday, but as more time passes and actors unfortunately pass away, that's looking less and less likely.
