awesome DISTRICT 9 trailer (Neil Blomkamp, Peter Jackson)

We heard about this while we were in NZ a few weeks back. Before that I had heard nothing about it.

With this and "Moon", it looks like a year of pretty good, intelligent science fiction! Oh and I love the irony of the South African blacks wanting segregation from the aliens. Kinda reminds me of all the different Asian nationalities that hate each other but then cry "RACIST!!!" when they perceive white people acting against them.

Apparently only white people can be racist - a racist attitude in itself.

Wait, so they're turning that demo video thing he made into a full featured film? I guess he needs something to do while waiting for someone to pay for Halo.

Actually, a while back I'd read from more than one source that the Halo film was shelved in part because certain partners on the film didn't want a South African directing a big budget feature film. Had to be someone from a "first world" country or it'd look... strange. Less marketable. Jackson wouldn't budge from his pick of Blomkamp, so...

Ironic really, considering Jackson himself is from New Zealand which a lot of people probably think is just full of fields and kiwis but then, he was considered a doubtful choice to handle Lord of the Rings, back in the day.

Isn't this a remake of a French film?

Regardless, the trailer looks very interesting, and if ther reviews are half-decent, I'll see it.

Message or not-it looks intelligent and that is so rare in a world where Transformers are the big thing that I will see this.

If true, that's pretty insane (not to mention perhaps a tad prejudice). Especially considering "Halo" looks pretty strange anyway and all the parts that take place on Earth take place in Africa.

As for "District-9," it looks very interesting. I'm almost getting a "V" vibe from it, though I doubt that's where the movie will be going. Judging from the trailers, I may go see this when it comes out as I'm partial to sci-fi flicks that aren't toally grounded in explosions and uber-tech.

I caught the end of this trailer went I got back into the theatre after cleaning myself up (long story, I talked about it in the Wolverine grading thread), and it piqued my interest. Once the name Peter Jackson appeared on the screen, I was intrigued even further. I'll definitely try to see this one. I'm a little surprised I hadn't heard about it before, but perhaps I haven't been keeping up to date on these things.

Isn't this similar to the premise for Alien Nation? If it isn't, I'll be really interested to know more about the plot of this film.
