Awesome book cover mock-ups!

This is sort of TrekLit related. I just read on 8of5's Guide to the Trek Collective about an artist named Rob Caswell, otherwise known as Arcass, and some awesome work on his deviantART page. He created remade/remastered versions of the old James Blish Star Trek anthology covers. Those were awesome enough but there was so much praise for this work and fans pleading for more that he created a whole new series of books call The Seekers and made covers for those.

The Seekers
is sort of a TOS spin-off from an alternative timeline featuring the adventures of an Archer-class scoutship and its crew. These covers have to be seen to be believed. I mean, there is wear & tear built into the images to make them look like old, worn copies found in a used bookstore. There are stains & tears and one of them even has a library stamp on the front. A lot of work went into these images and, as a fan of all those old 70s books, I thought these were an awesome tribute by a true fan.

Check out the articles here:

There are also links to his other artwork, a lot of which is Trek related. The artist really deserves a look.

Enjoy.

Those are really cool. I'd be horribly tempted to rebuy those books if they actually reprinted them today using those covers!

The idea of The Seekers as an alternate-universe spinoff is interesting, and I wonder how long it'll take for the fanfic authors to begin writing those "adaptations." (Hopefully someone familiar with Frederic Brown's writing style.)

Five volumes of adaptations with five episodes adapted in each? Hmm, 26 episodes would've been more typical than 25. Maybe there was a 2-parter that was adapted as a single story?

Wow, those are cooool.

I read the articles a little closer and I guess, in reference to The Seekers, it wasn't a Trek alternate timeline but a real world alternate timeline. It was an alternate timeline where Star Trek had a one season spin-off series titled The Seekers and these were the novelizations of those shows. I missed that the first time around.

But would that make it a Trek alternate timeline as well?

hmmmmm. I get so confused when I start thinking in terms of the multi-verse.

I really enjoy Caswell's work -- though I find his depictions of women too objectifying for my tastes. But that's a separate issue. His starship images are amazing. I hope someone hires him for the next Ships of the Line calender.

Those are really cool. I wouldn't mind seeing him do some officially licensed stuff, either on book covers or Ships of the Line calendars.
