Yes they did but I don't believe BOAC was one of them, I think they were committed to the Britannia in that time frame.

I think Electras are still used for weather research. One was in VORTEX

Rather strange aircraft with the engines mounted on top of the wing instead of underneath it, reason for that is that the engines will blow extra air over the wing creating extra lift that way. (Coanda effect https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coandă_effect)
