Aventures of Superman

As a Superman fan(atic), I love this show, especially that first season with Phyllis Coates as my favorite iteration of Lois Lane.

Yup, childhood favorite, and I too have all the DVDs.

Some of the eps are a little hard to watch, though. I'm in season 5 now and it's so bloody obvious that they were aiming it at kids. I couldn't make it thru "Mister Zero."

Same here. The only thing I don't like about the first season is that incredibly lumpy, horribly-fitted Superman suit Reeves wore.

Despite the weight gain, I thought he and the suit looked a LOT better in the later seasons.

Mmm, Coates was better-looking than Noel Neill, but NN was more charismatic.

(My favorite Lois is the S:TAS version voiced by Dana Delany, especially when written by Hilary J. Bader.)

Did anybody watch the Movie based on the death of George Reeves? He didnt like to play the role of Superman. He wanted to play in more seroius roles in Movies than a childrens TV show. Why didnt the producer get someone else? Like Guy Williams for example? Im sure he would reject Zoro and play Superman.

I stated watching that movie and had to go to work or sometthing I can't remember. I liked what I saw of the movie and it seemed like there might have been foul play.Afleck did a good job in this.

I thought I was the only one who had collected the complete series on DVD! It's a wonderful series, and in addition to Reeves and the two Loises, it was also blessed with the finest Jimmy and Perry there's ever been, Jack Larson and John "Great Caesar's ghost!" Hamilton. Just watching those two do their things is great entertainment.

I also really liked the evolution of the show's style. The first couple of seasons, in black and white, are more down to earth, no pun intended, with Superman taking on more gangsters and less robots - the black and white look suited the slightly grittier feel. The transition to colour suited the move into more light-hearted, comedic stories.

Best. Superman. Ever.

Since I've been visiting my dad, I've been catching this on Me Too. It is very enjoyable. The stories are very simple, but that's partly what makes the show good fun.

George Reeves's portrayal of Clark Kent is interesting as he plays it in a very assertive, post-crisis kind of way. I wonder if the Post-Crisis revamp team took cues from this portrayal.

Yes, they did. John Byrne did indeed base Clark Kent on George Reeves's version of Clark, and Tim Daly also did so on Superman: TAS.

I've been noticing that, and i've gained a great appreciation for Hamilton. He had a very natural, subtle style of comedy, and he and Larsen played off each other wonderfully.

Yes, Coates was better looking but I was speaking more on her performance as Lane. She was much more believable as a tough-as-nails crime reporter than Noel Neill. I didn't find Neill that charismatic in the role because her voice was grating when she was being assertive or aggressive.

Moreover, Coates' Lane was a fitting rival for George Reeves' Clark Kent. She also fit well with the noir milieu of the first season (something I wish carried over into the later seasons, and into later Superman incarnations).

Dana Delany's Lane on Superman: The Animated Series is a close second to Coates, for me.
