Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

I have a feeling this has probably been covered, but has any reason been given as to why the decided not to include Ant-Man/Giant Man and Wasp in the movie/s? I'll admit I haven't read any Avengers comics yet, but based of off what I've read online and seen in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes they seemed to be pretty important members of the team.

I haven't read an "in story" reason why Hank and Janet aren't involved but I suspect part of it is due to the idea that Marvel still plans to do an Ant-Man solo as part of their smaller budget films that Kevin Freige has mentioned off/on the last few years.

In THOR the scene where they are on the roof after SHIELD has taken away the research Hank Pym's name was going to be name dropped as the one who was going to be emailed but they decided to cut it since the same scene mentiond a "friend who pioneered gamma science" was also alluded to in that scene. Too much name dropping so they cut it. Hopefully it got filmed and will be part of an extended scene selection.

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

i don't think they need an 'in-story' reason. the reason for them not appearing is simply that Edgar Wright failed to get his ass in gear and get Ant-Man made before Marvel decided to move on an Avengers movie in the wake of Iron Man and Incredible Hulk and the plans for IM2, Thor and Cap...

Avengers has been shooting now for over a month and spy photos from the production have not been a plenty....but we have some S.H.I.E.L.D. vehicles now.

Still kind of hard to believe we're only a year away from this, now. I haven't been this excited about a movie since The Dark Knight.

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

i'm still tooo excited about Cap America and Transformers 3 to get excited about it, but i expect that too change after Cap America comes out and what ever they show at comic-con...

It appears the Pittsburgh area is going to see some second unit filming for The Avengers. TDKR will be filming there also.

Secondary filming, with no actors...not exactly the most exciting of news I know, but I was told the same thing about Captain America: The First Avenger last year (when they were filming in Caerwent, Wales) and the recent trailer clearly showed that both Chris Evans and actors like Sebastian Stan were in fact in attendance! Either way, those of you who live locally should keep an eye out, as anything to do with this movie is bound to be worth seeing!

I wonder if PA is offering tax break incentives like Louisiana and that is why both of these films are doing some shooting in the Pittsburgh area?

Kevin Feige talks Avengers (and also IM 3 but it's a bit early to start a thread on that movie, IMHO)

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/21068/feige-talks-iron-man-3-avengers-focus

Feige also says that "The Avengers" won't have the issues of "Iron Man 2" because it aims to balance out the character ensemble - "The first step in avoiding that was hiring Joss [Whedon, writer-director]. If you look at his body of work, he regularly writes for lots of characters. ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ may be called ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer,’ but it’s really an ensemble piece and none of the characters ever get lost in the spectacle of whatever is going on. The stuff we’ve shot [so far on THE AVENGERS] is cutting together spectacularly and it’s just the character interactions that we’ve done so far—we haven’t shot much of the action sequences yet. I think the end result is going to feel very, very satisfying."

FWIW, the Iron Man talk is as follows:

the focus of the upcoming third film will be back where it belongs - on Tony Stark.
"Audiences will see that Tony Stark is going back into his own world. There will be acknowledgements to the events of 'The Avengers' and the character journey he took there, but he’s not going to be having tea with Thor and calling Nick Fury every five minutes" says Feige, confirming the film will be more of a stand alone and self-contained entry.

Concept art for Cap's Avengers costume?

I think it's legit. The style looks like the same used with the art for Thor's costume and Cap's First Avenger one.

I can't believe that someone would actually spend that much effort on such a trivial subject. The first job of a comic book artist is to provide entertaining visuals, not cater to the demands of archery enthusiasts.

Comic book fans thrive on trivia. Heck, this BBS wouldn't exist if it wasn't that tendency.

And while I'm not an archery enthusiast, I personally find it fascinating & educational to read about. I don't demand that they get every last detail of archery correct, I don't think it's too much to ask that they get the basic things (like not drawing an archer pulling a bowstring over his arm ) right. Really, that's like drawing a basketball player kicking the ball down the court.

Interesting comments from Finge I had not read those, and I like the "Avengers" Cap concept art if that is indeed legit. Kind of looks Ultimatish.

Chris Evans talks about Joss Whedon on Avengers and what he's enjoying about that production and how it moves Steve into present day.

"If something isn't working for you as an actor within the words, he(Joss) can walk away for ten minutes and come back with seven options that are all fantastic and clever and witty and it's got a pace and a banter. He's a great guy to be quarterbacking this thing."

Evans also commented on Captain America's role in The Avengers, which sees the character adjusting to life in the modern-day world.

"The guy has to accept the fact that everyone he knew and loved is gone," he revealed. "Not only is he alone, all his friends are gone, the world has changed too much."

"It's him trying to come to terms with the way things are."

The video interview is at the bottom of the page.

I just read on ComingSoon.net
that the post-credits scene is not actually a scene at all, but a teaser for teaser for the Avemgers. Here's a description they have posted.
The breakdown of the after-credits scene from what I can remember:

Steve Rogers is in an empty gym throwing haymakers at a punching bag before finally punching it so hard it breaks off it's chains and (I believe) through the wall. Nick Fury walks in and says something along the lines of "getting ready for the enemy?" and Steve goes "Well it's been awhile

*I don't know word for word exactly what they said. I saw the scene around 8 and I'm writing this at 1:30a.m. So yea I'm a little tired.

Then we see quick snippets of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, Loki being escorted in "handcuffs" by SHIELD. After that it's a long shot of Thor rocking a new outfit reminiscent of his Ultimate garb (sleeveless) in front of some roundtable of SHIELD.

Then basically after that it's shots of action scenes with each character - Iron Man in what still looks to be his Mark 7 outfit getting ready to fire his repulsor beams, Cap in some sorta battlefield, Black Widow doing some flips and throwing darts, Hawkeye shooting an arrow, Thor summoning lightening, a shot of Bruce Banner taking off his glasses.

Then the trailer closes off with really quick action shots. Couldn't tell what they were, no actual clue as to who the villain(s) is/as we only see Loki. You don't really see a shot of all of them together though I could be wrong about that and missed it. Can't wait to see it hit the web and get some screen grabs.

At least archery is a real thing. Just look at the arguments over fictional spaceship design.
