I'm not familiar with the source material... But a Heli-carrier???:guffaw:

Yeah I get that apparently that is true to the comics. BUT. It looks ridiculous.

I really like the grounded approach of the first Iron Man film, but this... It seems like a completely different universe.

I couldn't disagree more. That was the moment where I was completely sold on the Avengers movie.

As far as 'grounded approach', you really think that Tony Stark is the only guy in the world capable of creating a power-source in a cave? Yeah, in the Marvel Universe the military has sh*tloads of money and guys getting payed to think of things like flying aircraft carriers.

We went from a guy in power-armor to pagan gods and cubes that power disintegration guns during WWII within three movies and you have a problem with flying aircraft carriers??

I'm not saying its completely realistic, the further we've gone from the first Iron Man movie the more fantastic the premise has become. That's how these things work.

The carrier could be outfitted with Stark's Repulsor/flight stabilizer tech

First Class- We had a levitating submarine

Nick Fury- We have a flying air craft carrier

Don't read much comics then?

Ultimate SHIELD has a fleet of helicarriers that are literally aircraft carriers retrofitted with Stark tech engines to fly. the Ultimate Nightmare limited series then featured a heli-cruiser, i think it was, which was basically a cruiser with the same flight mod and a belly hangar.

No, not anymore. And this might be a prime example why. :p

Just because it is in a comic does not make something a "good idea". Most comic book adaptations filter away the ... less than brilliant parts. Or things that don't work so well in the film medium. Flying carriers... Yeah, I think that crosses that line for me. Why not attach some rotors to the Stark building and have it fly into space while we are at it?

I'm still looking forward to the film, but some aspects of it has me worried.

i take it you've never watched Captain Scarlet either? or Doctor Who?

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

Doctor Who I have watched. And it is good sometimes, and ridiculous a lot of the time. What does it have to do with 'Avengers'?

That HeliCarrier being realized on screen is just fantastic!!

Is it May yet?!!!

I'd be in agreement with you if this appeared in, say, The Dark Knight Rises. But has there really been a grounded approach in the Marvel movies to date? I wouldn't describe Iron Man as grounded - the tech Tony had in his house was way and above anything inb existence in reality.

In particular, when you consider how advanced the tech was in the Marvelverse's version of World War II in Captain America, the helicarrier is quite in keeping with what we've seen to date.

Wow. What was that people were saying about the movie not looking epic or action-packed enough? Lol

I think once your leads include a giant green monster and an Asgardian thunder god, you're in full-blown Marvel Comics mode--and a Helicarrier fits right in.

Yeah, green radiation men, norse Gods from other dimensions and WWII super soldiers are one thing but man made flying machines? Ridiculous.

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

"Iron Man" was grounded? It still feels like the same universe to me...only much bigger now, which is kind of the point of the film.

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

The first Iron Man might have been "electrically grounded", but it was anything but grounded in reality: a magic reactor made in a cave with spare parts, and a suit in need of inertial dampeners, that should have given Tony Stark one helluva concussion right out of the gate. Loved every minute of it, too.
