I just watched "Hail, Hydra"

Spoiler: Avengers: EMH season 1 ep 22 "Hail Hydra"

(the episode where AIM and Hydra are fighting over the cosmic cube), and I was wondering, is Nick Fury's mysterious absence explained by the end of the season?

My guess is that he went into hiding after discovering the Viper-Skrull because, with shape-changing aliens infiltrating Earth institutions, he felt he no longer could trust anyone around him. That's how it went down in the "Secret Invasion" build-up in the comics, anyway. It would be really cool if he returns with the Secret Warriors (the group he recruited while preping for the Skrull invasion in the comics).

Looks like we'll have to wait until next year. I guess I can stopped searching my DVR for Avengers (That horrible movie with Ralph Feinnes keeps popping up).
