Avatar: The Next Series

For fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, what would you like the next series to be about if one were made?

My idea is similar to what a lot of others might want to see. It would be about the next avatar in the cycle, an earthbender in a slightly futuristic world. I envision him as a male in his mid 20s who's a bit of a drifter with a futuristic motorcycle and a small animal companion more like Momo. Of course, the avatar can't really be a full-on drifter given their position, but this guy tries. Anyway, it'd be nice to see how the avatar handles a techically advanced world of science.

Who would be the main threat? The Air Nation of course. That would be something new and interesting. They're the only one of the four nations to not be trouble so far. Why them you ask? I'd say mainly because after the events in Korra - Books 3 & 4, they've become arrogant, having set themselves up as a Justice League-style force that eventually went too far.

And here's another idea…

What if instead of the next avatar in the cycle being a simple earthbender, we got a person who could only bend two elements and no more? See where I'm going with this? If not, I'll explain later. This one isn't my idea actually, it's one I read in a comments section somewhere else but it's a good one.

I'd like to see a prequel with a past avatar (Kyoshi, maybe). There would be no more stupid cars or Republic City or any of that junk, just a young Earthbender and adventures. She was so long ago, and lived so long, that there could be a bunch of adventures we never learned about through Aang in Last Airbender, and a lot of story potential. It would also be a world where the nations aren't at war, but pre-war as opposed to post-war like Last Airbender and Korra. I know it will never happen, but I think it would be an interesting show.

Okay... This went well. Kyoshi was a fascinating character and I wouldn't mind seeing some of her adventures and development as an avatar. I also don't mind going back to the past but there would probably have to be something in the story or the character to make it interesting. Just another avatar in the past isn't enough. There's a lot they could potentially mine if they wanted to. The second avatar after Wan might be interesting. It's a shame that Nick has passed on Avatar movies.

Twins. Each one bending two elements. That's my answer.

I'd like to see the next Avatar series be set in a near future setting and the next Avatar to be an adult in her 20's or 30's. Of course, by this point society has developed advanced bending-infused technology (inspired by Varrick's spirit cannon) that has largely rendered real benders useless, so few people even care that she's the avatar. Perhaps she works at a book store. The story can develop from there.

And as for the NEXT NEXT Avatar series, I want spaceships, aliens, alien benders, other planets, and "pew pew pew" lasers. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I've always gotten the impression that bending wouldn't work off-world since water benders need the moon and fire benders need the sun for example. Bending probably requires a spiritual connection to the planet. Though I suppose the show runners could come up with new and interesting rules if they wanted.

So I just got done with a "Legend of Korra" rewatch, and I had some new thoughts about where I'd like to see the series go.

I'm interested in seeing more of the Spirit World and the integration of it with the Physical World. Perhaps we could even get a Spirit or two as the main villain. Korra definitely expanded our understanding of the Avatar's spiritual connection from what we learned from Aang. I'd love to see that taken even further.

I did always regret how little Spirits were used in both series. That's why Korra S2 is my favorite season.
