It's been so long since Avatar came out that I'm losing interest in a sequel. It's hard to maintain excitement when they are so far away.

I never had interest in a singular sequel, let alone 4 more.
Avatar is not Star Wars where you can announce 3 more films and expect people to really be excited.
It seems clear based on a ton of anecdotal evidence that interest in Avatar has severely waned.
I'm sure it'll do business but substantially less. Less enough to even release the other sequels after 2's fall from grace. That is to be determined.

Only getting around to the first sequel 9 years after the original movie is bad enough, but even if they squeeze enough story out of this franchise for 4 3-hour long sequels, the last one isn't out until 14 years on from 2009.
I'm not sure that many people would have seen a sequel at all if it had come out in 2012 or even 2014, it's a bit much making those that did wait that long.

I liked Avatar, but mainly as a visual experience. More stories ? Nah...
I enjoyed the first one, but it's been so long since it came out, and with 2 more years before we see #2, I'm finding it harder and harder to be enthusiastic. I think I might be able to be more excited if we if we didn't have so many other big franchise movies to look forward to in the meantime. It's so hard to be excited for something taking this long to come out when so many other big franchise can continue to deliver year after year.
I liked it fine when it came out and everyone was going nuts over it. I still liked it fine when suddenly it became cool to deride it for being popular despite having a straightforward plot. I still like it fine now.
My interest in a sequel has been similarly constant, as in: "hmm, OK, I'll check it out when it arrives, but I'm not exactly chomping at the bit here." I suspect most people who saw the movie have similar feelings.
It was fun at the time, it's fun to watch occasionally whenever I catch it on TV. But the times in-between it may as well not exist. Which is perfectly fine IMO, since it is a popcorn movie and a very good one at that.

I for one am still looking forward to the sequels, even more than any of the SW movies. Cameron takes his time with his movies, but in the end, the movies are better for it.

I never saw the original, so I can't say I care much about the sequels. 
Honestly, fond as I am of Star Wars, I'll be happy to see something else different in big screen space opera. The danger with Dinsey's wall-to-wall mass media approach is that Star Wars will eventually pall and might risk suppressing the healthy growth of other organisms in the process. I'll be happy to see Avatar sequels arrive whenever they do.
Lets also remember a 9 year gap between a film and it's sequel isn't really that long.

The problem is if the movies tell a story that is self contained why not just release the second and take it fro there? Do a trilogy and then a few more if there is a demand.
The first movie was beautiful and thats why people saw it, but it had no plot or storyline anyone cared for. So no one is going "let's get 4 more!!!!"

I wasn't a fan of the first film so I'm not stoked for the sequels. Its not like Star Trek or Star Wars or some comic book series where there can be long periods between installments and it doesn't diminish my enthusiasm. I was fine with Avatar being a one and done as far as I'm concerned. That being said, I will likely check out at least the next one. I didn't think I would be excited to see an other Independence Day, at least one coming twenty years later, but the trailer has me intrigued. If Avatar 2 has an interesting trailer it will likely rope me in again.
It's probably hard to imagine four sequels as it's hard to imagine even one. The first movie pretty much had a nice round ending, the "evil" humans buggered off and Jake settled down for a nice new peaceful with the Na'Vi and his hot alien babe.

Do people hate Avatar now because it made so much money? This was the first modern movie to use immersive 3D. It was nominated for Oscars. People went and saw it multiple times. It's the second best selling home video of all time. Now it's like "Meh, Dances With Wolves in Space." I think the sequels are going to do pretty well at the box office. I certainly hope it doesn't go the way of Sin City; get a huge following and then not capitalize on a sequel for a decade.
I wasn't a big fan of the first film but may have gone to a sequel 2 or 3 years after but now I have lost interest totally. If they announced a sequel was coming out this or next summer I wouldn't care at all. Star Wars is here now and even though I had my problems with TFA it was far superior and more enjoyable then Avatar.
