"Avatar" Sequels Delayed...does anybody care?

The first one is still probably the only film I've seen that justified 3D, but...the story ? Overall, I enjoyed it but not to the point where I'm eagerly awaiting more. I'll certainly go and see them, but 'whenever' is fine by me.

I'd have preferred Cameron revisiting the Terminator or Aliens franchises. That I would have been eagerly awaiting...

The first film was extremely derivative story-wise, but the acting and action were enjoyable, and the world-building was fantastic. What Cameron misses in the big picture with the simplistic and familiar plot, he makes up for in the execution of the details. It's a beautiful looking film and a great technological advancement in filmmaking.

So while I think the first film stands alone well enough and won't be too bothered if we don't get anything else, I am looking forward to seeing more developments in this universe.

I'm sure I'll probably go see the sequels when/if they come out. But they aren't something I'm dying to see. I hardly remember anything about the first film, saw it once at the theater.

Nope, the original was laughably derivative if pretty, though the 3D made my eyes hurt after a while. District 9 did basically the same story the same year and was a lot better imho. The scenery-chewing villain was really off-putting as well...

Stephen Lang's Colonel Badass was the best part of the movie and the only reason I even recommended it to anyone. The fact he's in the sequels is the only thing even tempting me to considering seeing them.

Meanwhile, Lang's character on Terra Nova, essentially a good guy version of the Avatar character was easily the best part of that show as well.

Yeah Colonel Badass was awesome. I mean he was no Tim Curry Oil Monster, but his mad dog antics were definitely a high point. :D

There was also Sigourney Weaver as Space Dianne Fossey, Giovanni Ribisi as the company veep of Being a Complete Slimeball, Zoe Saldana as Space Pocahontas... I've never seen what's not to like. For Dances With Wolves in space, it was frankly a better movie on most fronts than Dances With Wolves.

Avatar was entertaining to watch once, but it's not a particularly good movie. Sequel in 2017? Sequel never? Doesn't bother me either way.

I'm looking forward to them. Doubtless Cameron will break his own record - again - for the most successful movies of all time; no one ever seems to manage that in the intervening decade or so between his releases.

I don't go to 2D exhibitions of movies released in 3D unless I'm required to in order to satisfy a companion.

Don't forget Michelle Rodriguez as... err... Michelle Rodriguez. :shifty:

Agreed. Sure, it's Dances with Wolves, but that doesn't make it bad, or a pale copy. It stands on its own merits, IMO, and was a good film.

Space Michelle Rodriguez!

Avatar is still the best selling Blu-ray of all time. For what so many people thought was a shitty movie, people bought the hell out of it.

I don't care. I wasn't that impressed with the first film. All that being said, I would probably go see the first sequel. I thought Avatar had very good FX, but the story was very tired.

Funny, that. Makes one wonder if squeaky wheels on the Internet are really representative of...much.

To the unwashed masses, James Cameron's name means everything. Hell, you could likely attach his name to a blank screen and billions would flock to the theatre and scoop up the Blu-ray.

I'll watch it when it comes out, but no, I don't really care.

I'm confident that it will be technically brilliant. And at least somewhat enjoyable to watch. I have no confidence in the script.
