This must have been some spectacle in the cinema for it to have received the accolades it has.
Strip away the SFX though, and there isn't much there.

If this isn't, like, a reference that I'm missing, I'd be happy to go into agonizing detail about the superiority of hemoglobin over other respiratory pigment choices. And why is their blood red?
I just saw this movie for the first time on Sunday night on Bluray.
I thought it was (ironically) bland, generic and soul-less. Much like the Avatars themselves really.
Yes, it was Dances with Wolves in space. But unlike Dances with Wolves I just could not find the effort to invest emotionally in any of the characters. I really could not care less about any of them while I was watching this. To me, this one was DOA.
I completely don't understand all the fuss over it. I thought both District 9 and Star Trek were vastly superior films..
Strip away the SFX though, and there isn't much there.
What's left of Star Wars if you strip away the visual effects?

A fun story.
It's not a pointless argument. If you agree that without the CGI there's not much there of value, then it's another example of that tedious trend of style over substance. Which is of course becoming more prevalent as CGI becomes more advanced. It's all about the spectacle now.Strip away the SFX though, and there isn't much there.
That's a pointless argument in my opinion. What's left of Star Wars if you strip away the visual effects? And with that I even mean the Alien make up. Because what has been done with real make up in 1977 is now done with CGI, let's not forget about that fact.
