Auto Tune

You know that software that fixes sound fron crappy singers, anyone know of any shareware versions I can use with live mic input?

Have you tried singing lessons?

I second this. Auto-Tune is the worst invention ever.

I have no problem using auto-tune during the production stage of an album to tidy up a few things. They used it for years without anyone noticing audibly, and sound engineers have played with pitch and tone and volume in the studio for as long as they've been able to, the better part of a century. AutoTune just makes it easier, as computer software tends to do.

It's the flagrant ABUSE of it in the past few years, the need to use it in EVERY FUCKING SONG I HEAR in a really obnoxious manner. Like for every word, ratcheted up to the point they sound like robots on purpose. There are now rappers who can't even rap who like to pretend they are singers now too. I think Lil Wayne speaks into a microphone and then 100% of the notes are "fixed" with auto tune and then given a shiny gloss-over. I'm not sure why "artists" like that aren't embarrassed, but apparently people think it sounds "cool".

It´s not that easy you know...if you don´t give up all your sparetime and invest quite a bit of money...but do it as a regular hobby with lets say 90 min lessons a week...then it takes years to reach a point where you are more or less "presentable". "just" singing lessons is not enough.

I´ve had lessons for years from different teachers...and only now I´m really making progress.

I just wanted to play with something like autotune with some audio/video from star trek TNG.....

The Data Lifeforms song, I want to auto-tune it....... Does that make me a bad person....?

Just a question, but do you practice, hum-in-the-shower, or sing in the car at any time outside of those lessons?

Trust me, you don't need to invest giant chunks of time into practicing if you don't have it. Use the time you have and exercise your voice.

I've been singing for about 4 years now semi-professionally, and my voice is shot if I go longer than 5 days without even humming a note.

It's not necessarily the giant, marathon practices that build you up, it's persistence. You have to work at it at any opportunity if you're serious about it.

I will never understand why Lil Wayne still sounds like shit after the amount of processing his voice goes through.
