Australian floods worsen

Keep hearing the news about the floods getting worse and that really sucks. I hope and prey that people are either seeking higher ground or just the help they need and prey for everyone affected by this. Hope things get better and soon.

I grew up in West Morten Region (basically the townships west of Ipswich), so places like Gatton, Grantham, Forest Hill, Helidon, Laidley et al are just not names coming out of a newsreaders mouth to me. It is truly quiet personal.
I bet it would be. Most of friends who live that area have been there in the last 10 years or so, as many have moved from either Townsville, or other locations. See from many stories and photos on facebook and the news - I wish I could be there to help.
Family is okay. That is the main thing. The biggest concentration these days are in Rosewood and Walloon, which while cut off from the rest of the world, are okayish. Dad did say their house in Walloon came within two blocks of the peak mark. Close, but a serious bullet was dodged. Especially frightening is while Walloon is relatively low lying to begin with, the Bremer River is like a couple of kilometers down the road from it - it went that far.
Good to hear.
I think I am totally in love with Anna Bligh though. She has been truely remarkable through this.
I think Anna has done a great job.
http://www.youtube.com/user/videovisionqld has some remarkable videos of the Ipswich region and the http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ipswich-Flooding-Community-Reports/172411896133636 Facebook page has some rather detailed photos.
I'll take a look at both of those later and post them on facebook, so other folks can see them.
Nice to see you're okay Lady Conquorer. I wonder how some of the other Brisbaneites are these days. Especially jazamul (though last I remember (which was what 6 years ago!) - in Aspley!
I last heard from her in late 2009, as I think jaz posted in the VAL, and OZ posted something in the AL for me. Not sure if Captain Senisble is still in Brisbane (I know she posts on lonaf), nor do I know where UtopiaPlanitian either.

I have just read that the body of one of the men confirmed dead was found 80 kilometers from where he was last seen (Lockyer Valley).

Thanks. We have friends who live in Aspley and they came through unscathed so I think that surburb is okay - if jazamul is still there (if that helps).

This photo shows what it looked like under my niece's house after the water receded

The council sent out trucks to picked up damaged furniture, whitegoods etc

Once you're free of the disaster area and need to get away from it all, and recover, ask the relief authorities to bring you here to Vancouver. We're high and dry here, perfectly safe. We've had the least snow of anyone around here recently. The few days of rain we've had have taken care of what little snow/frost the rising fall-like temperatures didn't.

We're all thinking of you and praying for the affected individuals and families. May God Have Mercy On You.

Some positive news today, the missing is now only 14 people. And no more deads. Photos and names of the missing have been released, as has some names of the dead. While others are yet to be confirmed. :( Link

^ Yes. Many people are doing clean ups. Cleanups are happening all over the city and other areas of the state. I know my two of my friends are doing them currently. Seen hundred of photos on facebook with the clean up. Also I found these on photos on facebook titled - Incredible Flood Photos. Some are funny, while many are beautiful and sad too.

I worry that there'll be flood downstream,a s the water flows away.

And speaking of which, Victoria is now enduring terrible flooding too. :(

Hopefully, there will be no more people killed.

Elim, those pics are amazing. Neptune striding through the water, the sneaker buried in the mud, the heart-shaped ring of sandbags. Heartbreaking.

The image of the koala bear covered in mud really got to me.

I know. With all the tragedies, it's funny how something like that can really bring it home.

Saw that on the news last night. Thankfully no lives have been lost there.

Been updated to 18 now. :( Also the Mayor in Brisbane has suggested they may be more dead in their homes. Hopefully there ain't.

Very true. Been updated again.

I agree. Some poor child has it.

This picture is probably the most terrifying of the new ones. :(

It's up to 20 now the Sydney Morning Herald is reporting. Another body at Grantham. The flood in western Victoria has cut the main highway between Melbourne (cap city Victoria) and Adelaide (South Australia's capital).

I

This picture is probably the most terrifying of the new ones. :(

Yes, this one is beyond terrifying to me, because I have travelled that piece of road easily a thousand odd times in my life. It is just at the bottom of the hill from Redbank Plains Shopping Centre (which is at the top of the hill beyond the top of the photo) and Riverview at the bottom. There is this weird old engine on a big pole in the middle of the field just off the side of the photo that advertised some garage or something. Its been there forever - heck it hasn't been updated for ever - it still has the old seven-digit telephone number listed I'm positive even though we changed to eight digits in the mid 90s. It is one of those local icons you can always reference and everbody would know.

The other terrifying ones are the Goodna Bypass ones.

^ I bet it was. How are you coping with everything down there, mate?

It is estimated that repair cost will be 30 billion dollars. And a boy drowned in Victoria. Hear there was more rain in Brisbane. A friend of mine said it raining a few hours ago. That area doesn't need that now.

A friend of mine posted this on facebook earlier posted a very disturbing fanpage. As s some sicko yesterday created a page called Jordan Rice is NOT a hero. I know this page has annoyed many Australians. Lost count how many times I've heard it has been reported. I hope facebook close it.
