Audio adventures that you'd like to see remade into TV adventures

The Borgified Corpse

I've been listening to a lot of Big Finish audios of late. Some of them are really good and some of them I'm trying to picture remade into TV episodes with the new Doctor.

"The Land of the Dead." The skeleton monsters sound like they would look really cool if done with the kind of production values they have on the new series.

"Flip-Flop." I love the idea of the story being caught in an endless time-loop, switching from the "black" timeline to the "white" timeline & back again. (The only downside is that, if aired on TV, the network would need to make a firm decision about which part of the story would be seen first, rather than leaving it up to the viewer.)

"Circular Time." It would be a very different story if done in with a companion other than Nyssa. I'm not sure the exact story should be adapted. But I like the theme of circular time, doing 4 short stories representing the 4 seasons.

"Excelis Dawns." Or, really, any story with Iris Wildthyme in it. I love her! (And I think I've figured out a way to integrate the "Excelis Dawns" story into an explanation for how she survived the Time War.)

What are some of the Doctor Who audios that you would like to see made into TV episodes?

Doctor Who & the Pirates !!

Sword of Orion

Oh and Spare Parts, since Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel doesn't count.

The Marion Conspiracy & The Spectre of Lanyon Moor were good too, but I think a lot of the charm comes from the quality of the 6th Doc/companion dynamic and the actors who portray them.

I haven't had a chance to hear too many of the Big Finishes, but Invaders from Mars, in which the Doctor meets up with Orson Welles on the eve of the War of the Worlds broadcast, would be my first choice.

A more recent story I think would work really well on screen is the BBC Audio story The Last Voyage. It's a Tenth Doctor piece, but could easily be rewritten to include Eleven and Amy, or even just Eleven the next time the Doctor is between companions.

I'm working my way chronologically (in order of production/air date) through the Big Finish audios, and I must say, I'm LOVING them.

I've found myself loving the Sixth Doctor more and more, and I'm now convinced that his loud, bombastic, repetitive outbursts are solely caused by freaking Peri, who so far is the only Companion I cannot stand for the life of me.

I *have* listened to some later ones, the Divergent Universe arc with the Eighth Doctor starting with "Neverland" (though have postponed my listening as I've gone back to the beginning of the BFAs to listen in order). I'd love to see some kind of Zagreus type of storyline come into the show (though it could easily be morphed into a Valeyard story arc for the 12th or 13th Doctor).

All in all, though, I just wanna see some Eighth Doctor adventures put on screen with Paul McGann. The BFAs just make me all the more sad that the only screentime he got was the TV movie.

I've sometimes thought the same of Peri and wonder if she wasn't much of the cause of Colin Baker's downfall. I sometimes felt as if she brought out the worst in Peter Davison as well. It's like, in this instance, the Doctor is stuck with a companion that he absolutely can't stand, which causes him to be much more unpleasant than usual. (I don't think that even Tegan at her PMS worst irritated the Doctor as much as Peri.)

As for 6th Doctor audios, I haven't listened to many of those yet. I've been going through the audios mostly chronologically by Doctor. I've just reached the end of the 5th Doctor stories that I own. Colin Baker is next. I have listened to a few of the Sylvester McCoy audios out of order, such as "Flip-Flop" & the BBC audio "Death Comes to Time." (BTW, "Death Comes to Time" is an interesting concept, seeming to be an absolute Doctor Who finale.)

I look forward to seeing what many consider to be Colin Baker's redemption as well as dipping my toes into the waters of Paul McGann.

I really enjoyed the Sixth Doctor audio Jubilee. I think they should try to remake that one. Oops I think they already did. :p

Yeah - read the credits on the Big Finish releases and you'll find lots of familiar names on both sides of the microphone (here's a challenge - name the stories featuring David Tennant before he became the Doctor). I'm not surprised they took advantage of this to bring a story or two into the TV fold.

Yeah I've really come around on the 6th Doctor too. Although I have to admit it's hard for me to even imagine this new version being the same guy from the 80s.

They're just so dramatically different in tempermant, that I always find myself imagining the older Colin Baker instead when I listen.

Just listened to this one, and while I liked some elements of it, I far preferred the televised version.

The villains in the audio one were just too campy and cartoonishly evil, with the wife wanting to be slapped around and the midgets in the fake Daleks. Ugh.

I'm not sure what they're doing with the Dalek episode this season but it's possible Jubilee has influenced two episodes.

I've listened to one; "Colditz," a 7th Doctor story where Tennant plays a Nazi prison guard that keeps threatening to rape Ace.

There's one plot twist in "Omega" that would be really cool to rip-off.
We discover that the Doctor that we've been watching all this time isn't really the Doctor at all. It's Omega developed a multiple personality disorder sort of thing so that he looks like the Doctor and occasionally has arguments with himself as Omega & the Doctor. (Think Glory/Ben on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.) We don't figure it out until the real Doctor shows up to save the day at the end of Part 3.

Recently, I've started listening to Paul McGann's divergent universe arc. A lot of these stories are very interesting, especially with McGann playing a quasi-villain who may or may not be the Doctor in "The Natural History of Fear." But what I find most intriguing about the series is the idea of the Doctor & his companion being separated from the TARDIS for a long stretch of stories and trapped in an alternate universe that the Doctor knows nothing about. It's scary and really ups the stakes & the peril.

It's not an entirely new idea. The Doctor was without the use of his TARDIS for most of the Jon Pertwee years. There was also a good chunk of Tom Baker's 1st year where they traveled around in random trans-mat beams rather than using the TARDIS. And then there's the cliffhanger at the end of "The Mind Robber, Part 1" where the TARDIS is destroyed. Even looking at the new series, I thought one of the strongest moments was when they thought the TARDIS was dead when they got sucked into the parallel universe in "Rise of the Cybermen."

Holy Terror would be great fun and give Frobisher his chance at companion legitimacy.

A lot of great suggestions here! Here are mine:

Doctor Who and the Pirates!
The One Doctor
The Chimes of Midnight
The Council of Nicaea
The Church and the Crown
Bloodtide
Minuet in Hell
(for two reasons - to get Karen Gillan into that Hellfire Club gear and to see Eleven meet the Brig)
The Marian Conspiracy
Bang-Bang-A-Boom!
Colditz

I realize I've got lots of historical or pseudo-historical stories on my list, but what can I say? I love historicals, and the post-2005 Who hasn't done enough of them!
