attention girls: embrace your inner...

Oh for goodness sake! What a stereotypical response from an American. We do NOT all speak like the Red Green Show (which is a parody of Canadian stereotypes).

Believe it or not, we are an intellegent, well spoken people. I call a knitted hat a hat. :p

But there's nothing wrong with calling a knitted hat something besides a knitted hat. Calling it a knitted hat or a toboggan or a boggan hat has nothing to do with your intelligence or well-spokeness.

I grew up calling them "stocking caps," which is a term you don't hear very much any more. My husband, the native-born Hoosier, is the one who taught me the term toboggan. What's wrong with that?

Besides, Laser isn't really saying "Canadians all talk like Red Green," Trippy. He just wants to spread the goodness that is The Red Green Show and pass it along to another generation. And he braved a gal thread to do so.

I never said you did... :(

(which is a parody of Canadian stereotypes).

I know that. :)

(specifically it's a parody of The Red Fisher Show. Hah, bet you didn't know this ignorant American would know THAT, huh? ;) )

I know that too!

Knitted hats are called toques up here - took me a while to figure that one out! The little trampledamages are growing up bi-lingual in Canadian and English :)

sorry for intruding on your thread, ladies, but I felt I must point something out to t-damage: Just sit the little ones down in front of The Red Green Show. Every Canadianism (and Canadian politician) I know, I learned from it. :techman: :D

Another BBS member-with-a-member (*groans go here*) popping in.

Anyway, I love the Red Green Show, but you're right. It's very much a parody of the Canadians-as-manly-outdoorsmen stereotype, and reall has very little to do with actual Canadians. It's no more representative of us than other parodies like the Mackenzie Brothers and Celine Dion.

I'd say much more representative examples of what Canadians are actually like are shows like Corner Gas and Being Erica.

Will you all please STOP SAYING THAT! :brickwall: I NEVER SAID THAT RED GREEN WAS REPRESENTATIVE OF CANADIANS. I said that I learned lots of Canadian slang terms, plus the names of Canadian politicans, from watching the show.

^ Maybe not this time, but the way you post you'd think Red Green is the ultimate guide to Canada. Frankly, I have to say it gets a little tiresome after a while. It's a good show for what it was, but it's hardly the mecca you make it out to be. Even our admittedly small television industry has produced much better shows, and even much better comedies (notably things like The Newsroom, SCTV and the first seven or so seasons of Royal Canadian Air Farce).

I'm sorry, I don't want to derail this thread, it exists for a completely different purpose, but I needed to get that out. Carry on.

Ooh, pretty. I almost bought a similar one a couple of years ago when I was in the market for an in-between coat - not too dressy but not too casual, either. I didn't get it because I feared it wouldn't be warm enough, so I might check back with you, May, come mid-January.

I figured at that price, I'd take a risk. The coat I bought last year is really warm; I needed something for that 15-30 degree range that I could wear anywhere. I think this will work. *crosses fingers*

I bought 3 hot dresses last night...I look fantastic in them! Just wait until I lose this last 5lbs and I'll look off the chain....Now I just have to get shoes.

It really sucks that you need to be thin in order to find anything in the stores. I know what it's like...when I was 18-19 I was close to friggin 200lbs. It wasn't easy and of course you don't feel very good. Thank goodness I've not come even close to that weight again...but I know what it's like on both ends of the spectrum.

Going by the way this summer is going, "cold enough" will be in a couple of weeks!
Yeah, I know. I'm not looking forward to it, but at least I'll be warm.

Holy, carp! That's a great deal.
Thanks!

Great savings! I know how you feel. Today I made a spur of the moment purchase of a jacket for winter, reduced from £60 to £20. I don't want summer to end, but I do want to wear the jacket!
That's a great deal, too!

I usually buy shoes first then figure out outfits to match. ;)
Buying an outfit to go with shoes is a skill that I have never mastered. :(

BTW, I forgot to say I love the coat! I got a shearling for my diva dog Melody today. So far things are shaping up so that she's going to me more stylish than me this fall.

I don't understand it. When it comes to clothes, I couldn't care less about designer labels. When it comes to my glasses? I just had to have the French Connection frames. They were 50% off though!
