That's what I'd try anyway. I know most people don't mind if black is worn at a wedding these days, but I try to avoid it.

I totally would, except I'm in that phase where I feel like I'm ten pounds heavier than I actually am and shopping is the last thing I want to do right now.

Nothing really works, other than wearing a camisole or something underneath the dress (which bulks it up and can look odd). I'm a DD on a small frame, so even dresses that should be conservative look slightly more scandalous on me.

How's your sewing?

You could stitch some light fabric around the neckline, so that it doesn't bulk the rest of the dress but covers your cleavage. Doesn't need to be permanent stitching, since you'll only need it for the one day. Don't worry about making it look good on the hanger, fix it and tweak it so it looks good across your chest, pin in place then sew it in.

Maybe a thin strap top underneath? in a similar color as the dress? Or a piece of jewelery like a brosch to pin the clevage together a bit. I use that trick for more chesty tops at work (but then I just use a safetypin, which.. could be even smarter.. they hardly show).

Can I resurrect this thread? Ladies, I need advice on something.

I'm attending a wedding this weekend for a friend of mine. I'm doing the first reading during the ceremony--something out of the Bible. I'm going through my closet and all of my dresses seem unsuitable in some way. Either they're all black, or they're too low-cut. I mean, I don't think I'd feel comfortable standing up there reading something from the Bible if I thought people were going to be staring elsewhere!

Do I just wear one of the black dresses, do I try to throw on a tank under one of the dresses with a print, or do I go shopping? Heeeeeelp!

The best thing I would do is go buy another dress. Doesn't have to be a pricey dress, just something affordable that doesn't have a v-neck or a low curve.

Maybe you can find a high cut dress that is sleeveless to keep you cool.

As for the black dress....I know these days people sometimes opt for black in this situation but I would choose a pink dress or maybe purple. It would look good on you. Even a nice blue.

I would go with a camisole with a lace trim at the neckline, hopefully in a contrasting color. Or something like this might work, since it's available up to 38DD.

Another tip that I would throw out here, as someone who does sell clothing: take the dress with you when you shop. Tell a sales associate what you're looking to do, and see what they suggest. When someone comes in and tells me they need a camisole to go underneath something, I can show them all the options we have in store and even suggest two other stores if we don't carry anything that works.

If you are really worried about talking infront of a bunch of people you don't really know, just look over their heads. They wont know you are actually staring at the back wall, they will just assume you are looking at someone. Just move your head as if you are looking at different people around the room, even though you'll just be scanning a wall, and then look at your paper from time to time (if you are reading off of a paper at all). Making eye contact can make things uneasy.


It's way better than picturing them all naked, haha.

Also I found the answer to my dress problem! Or at least I think I did. I bought this dress and it arrived today. It took some help zipping up but it looks pretty good! I'm thinking I'll wear a shrug or something over it to keep it a little more decent. What do you guys think of it? Good enough for a casual wedding?

Physical. Cramps are killing me. It made shopping today not fun. And I had a blood test this morning, too.
