attention girls: embrace your inner...

Re: attention girls: embrace your inner twitch.

i feel like shoes are a better gift than school. :p what are you studying?

the only relatively recent development in my life is that i've started selling my crafts. it could be more successful, but to be fair, i haven't worked that hard at the marketing aspect yet...

Re: attention girls: embrace your inner twitch.

^ I'd love to start my own business - hopefully something creative. Right now I program at work then do side programming jobs which pay well but aren't very creative.

Hey, I may be boring but at least I'm consistent! ;)

Fashion design. The goal is to start a line of high-end knitwear geared to the woman 40 and over. And it's a good time to be getting into it--knits are coming back. :)

Re: attention girls: embrace your inner twitch.

kimc, consistency is good.

teya, that sounds awesome. it never fails to amaze me that knitting consists of 2 stitches, yet the variation in designs that can be made... i'd be interested in seeing more knit skirts/dresses, or in general, knit items that aren't coats or sweaters or cold weather accessories.

whether you have just a few items (i.e. you're a hobbyist), or you want to start a business, or anything in between, you should definitely check out www.etsy.com, which i like to refer to as the world's biggest crafts show. the only real rule there (in terms of selling) is that what you sell has to be handcrafted by you (with specific exceptions). it's also an excellent place to spend a lot of money. :p

It's really just one stitch--purl is simply knit in reverse. ;)

i'd be interested in seeing more knit skirts/dresses,

Before I got sidetracked with baby stuff (two little ones coming to friends in March) I was working on what I call the "PMS Dress." It's a soft cuddly dress made of an angora/lambswool blend--not enough angora to be hairy, but enough to be *really* soft. It's for those days you just need to wear your blankie.

My stuff is based on vintage stitch patterns. Unfortunately many can't be duplicated on a machine, so that means hand-knits, which puts me in a very high-price range.

Thanks for the link! :)

Especially for those cold -40 F winter mornings. Perhaps it could be a wrap dress so the night before you just lay it in the bed with you then the next morning while still under the covers you can slide in your arms then wrap all without getting out of bed!

I'd add one of these ;) but I'm semi-serious here.

That's excellent!

It obviously gets nowhere near Minnesota temps here, but without central heating, January mornings were damn cold. And I did exactly what you described with my bathrobe. :D

Re: attention girls: embrace your inner twitch.

for cost-related reasons, my parents keep the house in the mid to upper 60s in cold months. i always keep my sweatshirt (or whatever) under the blanket when i sleep so i don't have to put on a cold sweatshirt when i want to get out of bed...

Re: attention girls: embrace your inner twitch.

^ Never thought of the bathrobe but I have been sleeping with two tops lately - pajama plus sweatshirt. I can tell it's particularly cold though since my dog who normally perches on the edge of the bed is now huddled by my side most mornings.

At least my favorite shoes get less wear and tear since I won't expose them to these conditions.

Hey, I just realized I made it through a month without announcing in here that my uterus was hurting - which it was A LOT.

Oops...

Re: attention girls: embrace your inner twitch.

one of the benefits of having had an akita was that he didn't get cold. he always looked at me like i was stupid when i tried to get him to NOT sleep in the snow...

my uterus has been inactive.

i've decided to try to avoid buying new beauty products until i've used up the stock that i have. the only exceptions will be my favorite moisturizer and cleanser, because i really can't live without those. let's see how well this goes.

Bear in mind that most beauty products expire (they say you're supposed to replace lipstick every 6 months, but that you can probably get away with every year, for example).

Re: attention girls: embrace your inner twitch.

I have a question. My fiancee has gotten horribly dry skin thanks to this crazy ass winter on his knuckles. I've never had it this bad so I'm not really sure what to do.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Re: attention girls: embrace your inner twitch.

Get a good lotion and use it. DH likes the Vaseline intensive moisturizer. It doesn't have the "girly" scent of a lot of lotions. The Curel hand and cuticle lotion is also good.

Re: attention girls: embrace your inner twitch.

Oh he's got a good lotion. Well when I make him ;) but it's gotten really bad. I fear we'll have to do the big e word.

Re: attention girls: embrace your inner twitch.

Is he willing to sleep in cotton gloves?

I'm not a good girly girl -- what's the big e word?

Re: attention girls: embrace your inner twitch.

Exfoliating was all I meant.

Maybe he'll steal himself some latex gloves at work.

Re: attention girls: embrace your inner twitch.

I figured that was what you meant, but I wasn't sure.

Yeah, get him to exfoliate, then coat his hands with a thick layer of lotion, make him sleep with his lotioned hands in some cotton gloves. You might have to repeat it for a couple of nights or once a week or so, but I bet that will work.

It does wonders for my feet. ;)

Re: attention girls: embrace your inner twitch.

Does he actually *use* the lotion on a daily basis?

:p

Re: attention girls: embrace your inner twitch.

I found a great exfoliator at the Body Shop. Satuma Body Polish! I have to get my citrus fix somehow.
