Atlantis: Season 5

ReadyAndWilling

Fleet Captain
Hey guys, I'm only on episode 10 and wow, this season is tremendous. The 'Daedelus Variations' was a great episode.

I can't wait to see the next episode of the double parter!

Such a shame it was canceled.

Season 5 is certainly better than season 4, and there are some great episodes, but ultimately I felt the series was on a downwards spiral after all the casting changes after season 3.

I think it was my favorite season since the first. Woolsey is the most competent and even-handed commander Atlantis ever has, which was a welcome change from how the character had usually been portrayed.

Still, there are a good number of awful episodes, and it's weird that the all-female team never appears after they are introduced.

Well, yeah, but they all came back by the end of that episode, right. Or was I really, really tired when I watched it?

^^One of them was killed, but otherwise the rest of the team survived.

And yeah, Atlantis season 5 was actually pretty good. Mind you, I could have done with a few less prance around the hiveship, debate if Todd could be trusted episodes. But the season did seem to once again find its way again. If only they had done some of these things in the fourth season. I'm not just referring to bringing Woolsley in (though that was an excellent development) but other things as well. The evil Asgard, especially.

Yeah, it's a real shame. Honestly, with the exception of a few choice episodes, I could just as easily dismiss seasons two, three, and four as well. The series really lost its way after the season one cliffhanger.

I actually enjoyed season 2, but season 3 and 4 were forgettable. Season 3 they seemed to have run out of ideas, and season 4 suffered from changing all the wrong things.

Careful with the spoilers please. I haven't seen the whole show yet.

What did you guys think about the cancellation? The show seemed to be doing really well and then, bam, the economic crisis hit. No more Atlantis.

Season 5 is probably my least favorite... For me the series went downhill from S1 onwards.

I think (over)concentration on the McKay and Keller characters severely hurt the show.

There were a few good episodes, such as "Daedelus Variations" and "Vegas", but otherwise not memorable.

The economic crisis was not the reason the show was canceled.
It was Canned because MGM thought they could make more money from a SGA DVD film then a 6th series but the economic crisis killed the DVD film.
I was dissapoited that the show ended because i would have liked them to have rapped things up and would have liked to have known more about the
evil asgard

I loved Seasons 1-3 (though I recognize the quality definitely dropped in 2 and 3), but as soon as certain characters were forced to leave the show, I just had a hard time caring about what was going on. Season 4 left me cold because, as much as people criticize Weir's character, I felt like she contributed to the heart of the show. With her gone, it just felt like the show lost something that it never got back again. Season 5 managed to tell some good stories, and I really enjoyed what they did with Woolsey. The show definitely seemed to be getting back on the right track, and I was disappointed that it ended. It should have had one more full season to really bring an appropriate finish to the overall story.

I thought the show went downhill quickly after S1. I stilled watched it though. There were several moments I believe where they could have made it great only to screw up has usual. Michael comes to mind. Started to intresting and ended so crap. Just like the Genii.

The Michael storyline was so great in the beginning and in the middle, but ya, that ending episode was just terrible. I only saw the ending episode a couple days ago.

Season 5 is definitely one of my favs. Seasons 1 and 2 were dynamite, 3 a little so-and-so, the only good thing about season 4 was Sam Carter, and finally the season 5 returned to what was good about SGA in the first place - the Wraiths as the bad guys.

the only good thing about season 4 was Sam Carter

Really?! I though Sam Carter was underused and completely wasted in season 4, nothing like the Carter from SG-1. I even nicknamed her long-hair Carter and pretended it wasn't the same person. Bob Picardo did a better job as Woolsey in season 5, though I would've preferred Weir not be kicked out at all after season 3. I was glad Torri Higginson snubbed her guest star appearance in season 5 after what they did to her.
