Astrometrics question

Was the Astrometrics lab built *from scratch* by the crew, or was it always there but just enhanced with Borg tech?

If the former, what used to be there before the lab was built? (The command center on ENT, for example - built for the Xindi mission - used to be a cargo hold)

I believe it was built over the top of area put aside for Stellar cartography, but it was a completely new technology as far as the federation folks were concerned.

No.

There was no hydroponics bay, as such. Kes was just using one of the cargo bays for that purpose. In any case, it wasn't the same room as Astrometrics.

I believe it was built by both Seven and poor forgotten Harry Kim.

The only thing poor about Harry Kim are his table manners.

I still remember Young Janeway from Shattered Gafawing an Incredulous "Harry Kim?" when it was suggested by a time traveling Chakotay that Harry may not be a complete assclown. What sort of hole did this kid dig for himself on his first day that he hadn't completely climbed out of it after 7 years? Was it because he called her Ma'am? Women above a certain age just don't like that.

Both Kim and Seven were the ones working on the Astrometrics Lab.
They built it from scratch as far as everything goes.
I also think they had to cut through several bulkheads in order to do it.
I don't recall them mentioning using a room with previous purpose which was transformed into the astrometrics lab.
Although I wouldn't find it hard to imagine they simply used Stellar Cartography and modified it extensively.
