Asteroid named after George Takei

He's looking fabulous!

/I have you George! But it man-love. Don't get any mixed signals. :)

Way to Go!!!!!!, George!!!! :) :)

I am getting really sick of that attention whore. He is on par with Brittney Spears and Paris Hilton.

He was excited to learn that there's a deep-space probe headed for his asteroid equipped with a penetrator experiment.

Hardly.

He's a nice old guy. Give him a break. Hopefully when you're old, people will remember you, too.

*mops up Coke from keyboard* :guffaw:

Well, this is just great.

If Takei gets his own asteroid, Shatner will probably insist upon getting his own planet.

Shatner IS a planet (His ego generates its own gravitational field). and George is not an attention whore. It was the two scientists who submitted George's name - He did not campaign as far as I can tell. He seemed surprised, pleasently surprised by the news...so am I!! Way to go George!!!

...Oh come on, Takei is nothing like the people you mentioned! You're being a bit unfair don't you think? Boy, for 70, he looks great!

No I agree, he is a complete attention whore. Not one week goes by without a cameo appearance by him in the media.

:wtf:

Well, generally speaking, those two generate 100x more attention than Takei. Outside of our little clique, I doubt there are too many who would register George Takei as, er, well... anything.

Have... have I just stood to the defense of Paris and Britney?

*throws up a little*

Well, all that aside, I am glad that IDIC has finally provided a homosexual asteroid.

Which just means that he is getting a lot of attention from the media, not that he is seeking it out.

ETA: They (the media) are seeking him out, and in an almost unanimously positive way (unlike Paris and Brittney.) In the grand scheme, this can only be a good thing for Star Trek and for Trek fans such as ourselves.

Give the old guy a break. For the first time in his life he is getting attention for something other than being "Sulu on Star Trek" and who can blame him if he's enjoying it? Who wouldn't?

Nationally-syndicated The Stephanie Miller Show are big fans of George. Yesterday they did this bit on their radio show: http://www.supload.com/listen?s=9HF945LVNU4K

Note to mods: This is freely available material from the show's website and doesn't constitute a copyright violation.

I haven't listened to today's show yet, but Takei himself actually called in for an interview. Once I've heard it, I'll post a link in this thread. :)

Well, Takei is a social activist & was involved in film well before Star Trek. Chalking him up as being near nothing is roughly 9 lightyears from reality. Always puzzles me why some are unhappy or uncomfortable with the idea of him being successful.
