Asteroid named after George Takei

No I agree, he is a complete attention whore. Not one week goes by without a cameo appearance by him in the media.

Which just means that he is getting a lot of attention from the media, not that he is seeking it out.

ETA: They (the media) are seeking him out, and in an almost unanimously positive way (unlike Paris and Brittney.) In the grand scheme, this can only be a good thing for Star Trek and for Trek fans such as ourselves.

Give the old guy a break. For the first time in his life he is getting attention for something other than being "Sulu on Star Trek" and who can blame him if he's enjoying it? Who wouldn't?

You honestly believe the MEDIA are seeking HIM out?? Why? Why have the media latched on to this one low key actor from a series that's 40 years old? They haven't. He's the one who holds press conferences and spreads the word out through his many contacts.

It's getting boring. Actually, forget that, it got boring years ago when he kept going on about an Excelsior series.

Yeah, that's it. When Jon Stewart was talking to Leonard Nimoy, George Takei just *happened* to call at that same moment.

So, uhhm, yes, I honestly DO think that they are seeking him out. If they weren't, we wouldn't *be* seeing him anywhere, let alone everywhere..

Do YOU honestly think that we would be seeing him everywhere if the media DIDN'T have an interest in him? If so, then you haven't a clue how American television and radio work.

If you honestly think it's that easy to garner media attention, then go ahead and try it. I'll wait here.

The reason he's getting a lot of attention because he came out of the closet (Which, I think is what is *really* stuck in the various basher's craws. THAT'S what getting boring...) It will probably last until the next celebrity comes out of the closet. Things like that garner attention from the media. Welcome to the 21st century. Enjoy your visit.

Oh look you're playing the old 'homophobe' card. THAT'S getting boring. Might interest you to know that I'm gay as well, does it matter? No, because we're not talking about his sexuality. We're talking about his obsession with being in the media spotlight.

Not a week goes by without George Takei making some announcement or statement. Why him? Why not the actor who played Chekov, or actress who played Uhura.

George Takei is a media whore, simple as that.

Yes I do say so. He's in the media every single week saying something or another and has been for many many years, as far back as his Excelsior series campaign.

And the strange thing is, he never has anything interesting to say which baffles me as the man is quite frankly, boring.

If Takei gets his own asteroid, Shatner will probably insist upon getting his own planet.

I remember reading somewhere that Shatner has a star named in his honor.

Give the guy a break, I thing he's always been a great part of the StarTrek universe. He's just trying to make a buck by appearing on other tv shows, cut him some slack.

Yeah, because we all know liberal media personalities are oh so positive and loving of everyone.

I still stand by my earlier comments. If the media wasn't interested in him, there wouldn't be any George Takei soundbytes.

They're interested because he's making himself so completely available to the media. It's embarrassing quite frankly how much of a media whore he is.

It's rather a big (and wrong) assumption that every single media company is interested in him, rather than any other Star Trek actor. Face facts please, he was a minor character in a 40 year old show and is now just trying to milk it in his attention seeking ways.

Just for the record, George Takei is not the first Trek actor to have an asteroid named for him. Nana Visitor has one, as does I believe Leonard Nimoy. And I need to check the list to be certain but I do believe Shatner and Kelley have one as well.

It's funny given how many people are expressing sentiments of the "X can't be Kirk, Spock, Scotty, etc." variety with regards to the casting of the new movie with one breath, yet expressing what comes uncomfortably close to hatred for the likes of Takei. Make up your minds - do you like the TOS cast or are you more interested in kicking him. No one calls Shatner an "attention whore" even though he's not only on Boston Legal but also appearing in commercials for about 10,000 different products.

Anyway, getting back on topic, I think it's great that he got an asteroid named for him. Last year I was able to arrange for an asteroid to be named in honor of rock and roll pioneer Bill Haley and it's just neat to know that you've managed to get a name attached to something that will be around forever.

Cheers!

Alex

Slight difference, Shatner is a good actor on a good show. That's not attention seeking, that's doing his job.

Takei on the other hand just utters random bollocks every few days about anything and everything, related or unrelated to Trek. A year or two ago, every single day you couldn't open TrekBBS without reading his latest views on homosexuality or concetration camps, or both.

Another week, another Takei moment in the media. And yet another dull boring gay comment thrown in.

But please, go on... keep disagreeing with me.
