The only thing I really liked about ACIII was wandering around Boston and going, "Oh hey, I've seen that building!" But otherwise, yeah, it was so lame.ACIII is the low point of the series for me. Uninteresting characters, story, and setting. We trade the massive ancient structures of the Middle East for... low wooden buildings and a forest?
While the gameplay is significantly improved in "Syndicate," I still kinda feel the same way about the setting. London. Woo. Maybe I'm just burnt out on that city from watching too much Doctor Who.
The reason I loved the Ezio stories is because of the ancient setting. The closer we get to the present, the more bored I get.

Looks like they're making the Animus more of an actual combat training ground for the would-be modern-day Assassin, which does tie in to the later games as well. Juhani Otso Berg (Templar soldier from Rogue/Syndicate) was Animus-trained, as was his Sigma commando team. Clearly the Templars are thinking they can recruit Fassbender to their side ('We saved your life. You owe us'), as they're otherwise suicidally stupid in creating their own worst enemy...

It is, but it looks to me like they're augmenting/accelerating the process through this rig. A lot easier to get present-day-person physically prepared to do all these stunts by actually working their bodies out than by lying/writhing in a VR bed, right?
Music worked fine for me.
It's a dumb, pretty video game movie, so dumb video game trailer music is perfectly a propos.
So uhh... is it worth coming back to the franchise? I loved AC1 and most of all AC2 with its expansions. But then AC3 completely ruined my interest in the series. The gameplay was so damn boring (the timesinks, the collecting...) and the conclusion of the Desmond story very dumb.
I don't care for pirates so I've skipped the Assassins of the Caribbean version and never looked into anything else.

I took a break after Brotherhood, and returned for Black Flag (I'd almost argue it's fun even if you're not into pirates), skipped Unity (because, broken), and returned for Syndicate.
Both protagonists are very likeable and have a good dynamic going on (well, for video game protagonists, we don't get a lot of sibling dynamics). To answer your question, I was playing as Evie constantly, there are not a lot of missions where playing as Jacob is required. Industrial revolution era London is a cool setting as well.

Liberation has a female Creole Assassin as the protagonist...
Unity is not bad either now after all the patches...
Could I play Black Flag and then just skip right to Syndicate? Nobody seems to like Unity, so I was thinking about just skipping it. I enjoy following the story arc, so if there's some kind of a big story development in Unity I don't want to miss it.

I've heard very good things about Rogue, but I can't get over the fact that it's last gen, my inner snob won't have it.
Same for Black Flag, the difference is that it got a slightly nicer looking current gen port...
Though i'm surprised they didn't do it for Rogue as well, since it came out after Black Flag...
