Assassin's Creed: Syndicate (also Chronicles and Movie)

A 43-minute video leak of the beginning of Syndicate has leaked online. No, I'm not providing the link. SPOILERS ahead...
This game picks up pretty much where Unity left off. You're one of the Initiates, operating through Abstergo's Helix video game machines, and still taking orders from 'Bishop.' Your assignment is to locate a Piece of Eden known to exist in Victorian London via the genetic memories of Jacob and Evie Frye. Once you pinpoint its' location, Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane (in the present day) will swoop in and take it if it's still there. The Templars are hot on the trail of this POE too, so it's a race to the finish line.

Other points:
- Abstergo/Templars control most of the world. There are Assassin enclaves in France, Brazil, mid-Atlantic (The Altair II, commanded by Gavin Banks and William Miles), Nigeria and Japan.
- Isabelle Ardant is the current Templar Grand Master in London.

1868 London. The Templars rule supreme, under the command of a new ultra-evil Grand Master named Crawford Starrick. (His collar shows the first historical appearance of the Abstergo logo.) And he's eyeing the throne of Queen Victoria herself - and beyond that, the entire world. Only "the unstoppable Frye Twins" stand in his way...

EDIT: Holy shit. This 40 gb game is reportedly going to require an 18 GB DAY ONE PATCH before you can even play it the first time. WTF?!?

And you are surprised why exactly? ;)

Fortunately i have been cured of pre-ordering and first day play for most franchises, especially the big ones from EA as they are never ready to play.

Give em a month or two and then read up about first hand experiences and only then decide to try it.

I knew I said I wouldn't do it, but I picked up Syndicate for PS4. I don't know if it's where it's a new head studio doing it, but I'm actually having fun with this one. The combat is fun again after the bash-your-own-head-against-a-brick-wall tedium and frustration of Unity. So far the free-running system hasn't had me jumping all over the place or getting hung up on random objects. The carriages are a welcome change of pace when it comes to travel and I've been having a ball fighting Blighters on top of the train and then kicking them off (literally) said train. It's also been a while since I've laughed maniacally while playing an Assassin's Creed game (I think Black Flag and Brotherhood were the last two that didn't feel like a chore to play).

All in all, I don't regret my decision to buy this. And this is coming from someone who swore up and down I would never buy another Assassin's Creed after Unity.

Not new, per se, but this should be the team who did Black Flag who worked on it versus the Unity team.

I haven't played too much of it yet, but I agree that it is a lot more fun than Unity was.

The combat seems a lot smoother, and so far the characters have a lot more charm. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story plays out.

I still really miss Desmond and Ezio, though. They were great characters that gave the series a sense of cohesion. I want this story to feel like it matters.

At the end of Unity, What's-his-face ends up with the super awesome Precursor sword. You'd think the present-day Assassins and Templars would have been interested in finding that. That's what I used to like about the Ezio series; the missions you went on and the memories you experienced were later used to track down Pieces of Eden in the real world. In Unity, the Assassins were like, "Okay, that guy died. I guess we don't need to do anything else." It was so anti-climactic.

I miss the days when Assassins could gather armies of prostitutes to come to their aid. The more recent games have a distinct lack of prostitutes.

I've been dicking around doing a lot of side activities and am getting ready to start a memory in Sequence 4 with a recommended level of 3 at... Level 8

Nice.

I've actually been doing a lot of side missions, too, which is weird for me. During the last few AC games, I've basically just powered through the story because the side stuff was of no interest to me. This is the first time in a long time that I've just having fun doing stuff all over the map.

This is the kind of game that AC should have been making all along.

I got the Platinum Trophy the other day (the last Assassin's Creed I got the Platinum or 100% achievements on was Brotherhood) and I still can't put it down. I had so much fun I don't want to stop playing. I'm really looking forward to the Jack the Ripper DLC.

I put the game down a little over a week ago, which had more to do with real life getting in the way than anything to do with the game itself.

I'm thinking this Sunday is going to need to be a big lazy day of assassinating people.

I just started playing Syndicate a few days ago and I've been sinking HOURS into it. In terms of gameplay, this might be my favorite AC yet! You can recruit people to do things, which I loved about Brotherhood and Revelations, and the Batman grappling hook makes movement and air-assassinating so much more fun. And the Frye twins are the best characters since Enzio, maybe even better. I love their banter. And Industrial Era London is a gorgeous setting. I haven't gone into the main story too much yet, I'm running around clearing blocks, so I'm not sure how that will stack up yet.

The Fryes are way better than Ezio.

Ezio was fine, for a game. Not three.
Heresy! ;)

I liked the fact that we see all stages of Ezio's life from birth to death (in the animated short). The Fryes though are the best protagonists since Ezio.

I still haven't finished this game. I paused due to real life things a couple months ago, and I tried picking it up once again, but I just couldn't get back into it. I think I lost my momentum.

I just finished Memory 5 so I'm about halfway through the game and I'm still loving it. Totally addicted to leveling up my character(s) and doing these short activities. Every future game must include the grapple gun!

^ I would agree and would love seeing more of the Frye twins (especially Evie, who I may like more than Ezio). But, if the rumor is correct, then Assassin's Creed Empire looks to go back to before the first game in Egypt. Could be interesting. They definitely can't go forward in time much more without feeling like a GTA ripoff.

Just finished the Last Maharaja DLC. Definitely one of the worst AC DLC's ever (worst is still the rubbish Lost Archive DLC for Revelations.) Very buggy and filled with awkwardly animated, non-cinematic in-game cutscenes. Just a low-budget rush job through and through, completely lacking the polish Jack the Ripper had. Unless you got it as part of the season pass, don't even bother.
