Assassin's Creed sucks

I find it strange that I don't have these problems. The 360 version can't be that different to the PS3 version, can it?

Yeah, sometimes I jump to death when I actually want to jump to the next building, but not very often. Hunting down Borgia messengers and thiefs on the rooftops is great fun. And the combat system is awesome, in my opinion. You always fight the guy who is targeted, and you can switch the targets with the left stick. Disarming and counter attacking is easy, too. The more you train in Monteriggioni, the easier it gets for the character to tackle more difficult enemies, too.

The only problem I had was the sideways jumping technique you learn in the last Assassin tomb. That took a while until it worked properly.

The thing I'm finding annoying about the assassins tombs is how they've gone for an almost-but-not-quite-Tomb-Raider camera, which sometimes makes it hard to line up where you're going. And which makes me default to using Tomb Raider moves, which don' quite work cos this is a different game...

That and the fact that you can't go back in later to search for the secret areas you missed.

Don't get me wrong - I do love the combat system and it's great 90% of the time. I just don't think it's quite perfect, and I wonder if it's stretching the capabilities of the 360.

I generally don't have a problem with combat on the 360 - usually if I get out of sync and get hit a few times it's my fault, not the system's.

I've started playing the original Assassin's Creed last night (I'm playing through all three games for the first time, and chronologically) and after the first couple of hours, I have to say I'm very impressed. The game has certainly aged pretty damn well in terms of the visuals and it controls virtually effortlessly for me so far.

If this level of quality and polish is the basis of comparison for all the glowing ACII and Brotherhood reviews I've read and watched, I can hardly wait to get to them :techman:

BTW, did anyone notice how the master assassin, Al Mualim, is voiced by the same guy as Duncan from Dragon Age: Origins? I have, and it's extremely distracting

I never notice that, but then I wasn't a huge DA fan. I did just do a playthrough of all 3 ACs as well and I actually liked AC1 more this time than I did the first time I played through it.

I agree chase scenes were extremely difficult sometimes since you had to perform the route perfectly without a single "whoopsie".

But yeah once you understand the rhythm of the game combat is extremely easy for the most part. You just counterattack when they swing. Of course several times I would inexplicably find myself out of sync and get my ass kicked :p

I think that's an issue with the software keeping up with the game - if (in either AC1 or 2) you're surrounded by more than about five guards, the combat buttons stop working, so you're holding RT, a guard starts towards your character, you hit the dodge or counter button - and your guy just stands there and lets the guard hit him three or four times...

It happens often enough to have you swear at the screen, but not enough to really make you lose the fight.

This is why I think it sucks. I would be surrounded and my guy wouldn't do nothing except get chopped to pieces. I got sick of it and got rid of the first one and refuse to buy anymore.

Ah, reached the Carnivale level and the sideways-jumping Assassin's Tomb.

*now* it's starting to frustrate enough to put me off.

Carnivale was easy, but the sideways-jumping tomb annoyed the hell out of me, I agree.

I started Brotherhood last week and am enjoying it so far, though I've been avoiding the "virtual training" side missions after spending half an hour repeatedly failing to pass the effing tutorial level. The controls sometimes are really hard to work with, but it doesn't bother me when I'm actually playing the game at least.

Finally got through that last tomb... and I knew somethign Dr Who-ish was bothering me about Assassin's Creed 2 and I finally realized it - when you hold RT and A to make Ezio sprint, he runs exactly like Jon Pertwee...

Ok, I really hate Leonardo's flying machine. I found it impossible to control in AC2, I find it even more impossible to control in AC:Bro, especially when trying to shoot things at the same time. Grahhhhhh.

Oh yeah, I'm with you there, it took me forever to master that thing. It was definitely very annoying.

Apparently the next full AC game is being announced in May for a November release. No word on whether it's a proper AC3, or a third game with Ezio.

If it's AC3, I hope they avoid the temptation to do feudal Japan (which the designers have previously claimed is a favourite among the options they were considering) on the simle grounds that, well, Tenchu Z already exists...

I was hoping for Napoleonic France, myself, as it would be a natural progression of the storyline, and the spies and espionage angle could be very well played. (Nevermind the rich locales you could get, including the infamous Paris sewers). You could also have the story easily show how the United States got the apple before burying the damn thing on the moon.

The American Revolutionary War would be an obvious choice, regarding all those conspiracy theories that surround the foundation of the United States. Benjamin Franklin could be a great Da Vinci substitute for the assassin.

^ I actually think that would be a really cool time period to mess around in. I do think it COULD be AC3, but I think they'll wait to release that in 2012.

recently started playing AC1 which I got for $4 on Steam a few years ago :D
I like it so far
controls are great, visuals are amazing, and Kristen Bell
