Ashes to Ashes Series 3 (may contain Spoilers)

You know, technically Gene did kill Sam - the delusion of living in the 70s was better than his "real life", so he committed suicide. I hope that this case is just a metaphor for that anyway... the danger is that she'll end up "dying" the same way.

Even though she's saved her daughter, she still as a responsibility to be a mother (I would imagine anyway). It's not like she can just choose to die and live in her fantasy world forever.

Right, which is why I hope the "twist" is that Gene really did kill Sam (and maybe Annie I guess) and she has to resist him in order to get back to a "normal" life.
And hey, maybe it turns out the evil cop dude isn't actually evil but just presented as so because he is resisting Gene.

Of course, I'm sure that would piss off all the Gene fangirls. More likely, Alex ends up marrying Gene.

I don't know about you but I want the destroyed face copper to be young Gene, perhaps the part of his subconscious that wants his little fantasy to end.

And though I enjoy the chemistry between Gene and Alex I know that shit ain't gonna happen.

Poor old Viv, finally gets something to do and he ends up getting killed!

Good episode, I especially loved Gene leading the charge, although given how much crap was being thrown from the upper levels he's either slightly unhinged or knows something nobody else does (ie I'm not real so you can't hurt me...bastards!)

Glad I was right about the number being the copper's shoulder flashes.

Jim was back to being creepy bad guy today...what is this thing he has about watching people die?

I thought the guy playing the con man was quite good, thought the mannerisms and accent were quite Simm at times. Loved how Alex tumbled him though. What was East 17's Christmas number 1

I srtill don't have much of a clue but I am looking forward to finding out...although I'm thinking I'll be dissapointed too.

I was wondering if that copper was Gene.
Did Jim strangle Viv or was it just the way he was holding him:confused:

I don't think he did. His hands were in the wrong place. For a second, though, I thought he was going to snap Viv's neck.

Stay Another Day, you could've googled.

I knew that anyway (sad admission) Guess we can see who Alex grew up listening too!

At first I thought Jim was going to break Viv's neck, but he didn't seem to do anything obvious to facilitate his demise, unless it was something supernatural we weren't aware of, but it isn't like Viv didn't look on the verge anyway...

Good episode, but the whole thing about him getting out in 2 years anyway because he didn't throw the switch was stupid.

"Yes your Honour, I shot a Copper in the leg, then I wired the other two up to the mains at gun point, but I didn't turn it on" is not going to be considered much of a defence. :vulcan:

^^ Yeah, I thought that too.

Still, fantastic episode and the series is clearly headed towards its endgame now.

I subscribe to the theory that the young copper is Gene. Looks like Gene might be there in the same way that Sam and Alex are/were. Thordy saying that you 'forget' about the outside world stuff when you're there, perhaps Gene's been there that long that he no longer remembers his other life or that this isn't actually reality.

Jimbo may as well have stood over Viv with his Sythe, he's the Angel of Death.

Or at least that's what I'm going with for now!

I never thought about the world is fake for everyone or at least the main characters and they have simply forgot. Jim being death or just someone who has not forgot but wants to leave so tear down the world they live in makes him a dangerous man indeed.

I'm glad somebody caught it. And you're right about the mini series being better than the feature films, Rose Red is the one I'm partial to.

Take your pick;

Rose Red, The Stand, It, Storm of the Century, The Langoliers were all great IMO.

It was a good ep but after three seasons of sitting around not doing much Viv's death neither came as a suprise or carried much emotional punch for me.
Maybe it was just the BBC faults for hyping a 'Major character death' all week!
I hated the first season of Ashes but the 2nd was a big improvement and this one has been great!
Hope the ending doesn't diminsh the importance of Sam and Life on Mars just to justify three series of Ashes - I'm sure it won't!
Regards

That's an interesting theory, but I think if its true that Gene is aware of it, whatever he said to that bent copper the week before was enough to drive him loopy, which implies it was something along the lines of "none of this is real, you're imaginary mate!"

That's true.

Makes you wonder what he actually said. Obviously something extremely powerful. If someone said that to me I'd probably laugh at them, so whatever it was, was not only distressing but irrefutable.

Just read the Radio Times synopsis for the finale, sounds like it's going to be an absolute corker.
