Well the effect of Summers shooting himself would depend on the theory of timetravel they're goping with. One school of thought suggests that all old Summers has done is create a branched off new universe where he died young. Since he's still from the original universe he continues to exist, the question is whether he and Alex could ever get back to their universe?

It only works if it IS time travel. If it's all a fantasy then all bets are off. Did you learn nothing from the previous shows? What a brilliant episode, I was actually unable to watch when she was trying to dispose of the evidence in case anyone saw her. We immediately said "Ray" to the 'who is it?' question but I think that's what everyone was supposed to think.
I'm glad they made it who it eventually was. The good boy is the one that gets caught into the corruption scam.
As for the meta story stuff. I don't know anymore... shared hallucination by proximity? I hope he's just a figment of her imagination like the made who "helped" Tyler escape his dream. The contrast would be that Tyler wanted to ultimately stay but was "tricked" into leaving and here Alex wants to leave but is tricked into staying.

Oh yes I know it only works if it is time travel. The bit where she disposed of the body was gruelling to watch, as was watching the interview with the traitor later on.
Funnily enough Ray was probably the only person I figured was above suspicion! I'd have been annoyed if it had been one of the no names who swan about in the office...
I suspect he is quite real given the hospital scene near to the start of the season. Whether its time travel or a shared hallucination is another matter.
Well, if they are trying to be logically consistent, shared hallucinations are impossible. Well, at least I imagine that they are impossible. I've never had the chance to interview two comatose patients who were in the same room together. 
Of course, there's my other theory that EVERYTHING is just a hallucination of a depressed Gene Hunt. First he wants a best friend, then he wants a hot girl. I'd be impressed if they went that far.

This series is really going from strength to strength. These last few episodes have been fantastic.
I hope it's not true, because it would be nice to be surprised for once.

I almost wish that they could help kept it two series just to maintain some kind of parallel to the original. Oh well.
That's what I expected, but it sounds like they have something interesting planned, so I'll be happy enough to see where this is going.
Sam Tyler returns. That's the only thing that would surprise me now.
