She's one of the regulars on NCIS: New Orleans, but now I realize they introduced Waller before that started so I guess that wouldn't have kept her from being available when they first cast Waller.
I think they wanted to go with a younger, skinny Waller like the New 52 type comics did, instead of the older, larger version (who I always thought was more threatening). Personally the worst version of Waller in the comics is the current "supermodel" version. They don't really get that making her younger and more fit doesn't make her more threatening, if anything it makes her less. Waller is all about her imposing personality, and the fact that she's extremely tough even if she doesn't look it. The comic version is just lame, and the Arrow version just comes off as a bit of a nut, and not really threatening so much as being slimy and untrustworthy.
It's the CW. They want young hot.
The Smallville Waller, right? I'm afraid I didn't think she was very good at all.
I'm thrilled they went with Viola Davis for the Suicide Squad movie, though. She was my choice for Waller before they even cast her. The last time that happened was with Patrick Stewart as Professor X.
Well, they were probably just going with the version of Waller that existed in the comics at the time, though "they want young hot" is no doubt the explanation for DC's choice to change her look.
Anyway, I've come to terms with Addai-Robinson's supermodel Waller, because Arrow's version of Waller seems to have little in common with the original. Amanda Waller, at least in the version I know from the DCAU, is ruthless and Machiavellian, sure, but she's basically acting for the greater good and has some integrity in her own way. Arrow's Waller is much more one-dimensional and sinister.
Make that "young and hot". Some of the words I typed out weren't coming through for some reason and I didn't notice that "and" was missing.
Anyway, DC's Waller may have been a factor, I don't know, but I wouldn't discount the CW. A few years ago, Marina Sirtis didn't get a role as the mother of a teenager because she was too old. And look at what they're doing now... They have characters in their late 20s with parents played by people in their early to mid 40s.

Yeah Martin is only 19 years older than Patton. While certainly not impossible (or even all that unusual), the show definitely doesn't imply Joe had Iris when he was young.
Okay. So after typing that last paragraph, I did some more digging. Blackthorne is only 17 years older than Cassidy.
And here's some food for thought: those age differences are only a couple of years greater than Brad Cooper and his recent love interests.

Suicide Squad used to suck, but the creatives changed, and even with skinny Waller, it's been very enjoyable for the last 6 months.

In 1961 Angela Lansbury ( "Blue Hawaii" ) played the mother of Elvis Presley who was 10 years younger at the time.
It must have been good practice since in 1962 she played the mother of Laurence Harvey in "The Manchurian Candidate". She was just TWO years older than he at the time.

I liked Thea's enthusiasm but she is probably cray-cray. This show is getting worse by the season. 
Certain actors have always played older. Usually due to their looks or bearing.

What started off as a dark, serious, gritty story about a (borderline) anti-hero ("no one can know my secret" *snaps neck*) investigating a city-wide conspiracy... That ended up being nothing more than a terrorist plot (fuck you, Berlanti)... Is now a silly kids show. And we're talking Smallville level of silly here, but without any of Smallville's charm.
Oh, and the new suit looks like it was borrowed from a porn movie set.

Or, more importantly, Smallville's acting. Say what you want to about it, (and there's certainly a lot to say), but SV held a standard of acting, amongst the main cast at least, was much higher than people give it credit for--and definitely higher than any of the current [network] comic shows.
The acting on Arrow was always the one major critique I agree with and it seems to be getting worse. NMcD almost seemed like he didn't belong.
But, despite all that, Arrow is still fun, for the most part, which is more than I can say for Gotham.

I was compelled to compulsively keep queuing new episodes, the next one had to be better. Fuck sunrise and fuck dusk too, sleep was for the weak.
Clark is a moron, the entire gravity of the show was pushing him into Chloe's embrace, but he was just stupidly stubborn and wrong about how she was slightly less than perfect.
