Arrow/Flash Superhero Team-Up Spinoff In Works At CW

Apparently Jay Jackson is a new character. Maybe he'll turn out to be secretly a known character, like Harrison Wells or Skye, or maybe he really is a new creation like John Diggle.

Interesting that the article references "the STAR Labs crew" as part of the show. I would've thought it'd be based more in PalmerTech.

Ooh. Here's a thought: Since the current head of STAR Labs has turned out to be a supercriminal, maybe Ray will buy the company to keep it in business.

^We've already seen another actor play Jason Rusch on The Flash. Speculations online about the character's identity tend toward Cyborg and Static. Although the producers said the show would feature several characters who haven't been portrayed in live action before, and Lee Thompson Young previously played Cyborg on Smallville.

I really doubt its Cyborg. With him being in the Justice League movie and getting his own solo film. Yes, I know the same could be said of the Flash who is currently in a tv series which will have no relation to the JLA or the big screen movie. But I just don't think they see Cyborg as important enough to overexpose him in the same way. If they were going to allow him be on television I would think it would be on the planned Teen Titans series.

I think they do. DC has been pushing Cyborg as a core member of the Justice League for years now, presumably to add more diversity to the team, or maybe just because he's a favorite of Geoff Johns, DC's Chief Creative Officer (i.e. the guy in charge of developing DC properties for screen adaptations and merchandising). Cyborg is one of the founding JL members in The New 52 and the animated DVD movies based on it, he was part of the Smallville version of the JL, and he's included in the movie universe. They evidently want him to be exposed as widely as possible.

So it has a series order and our heroes will face an immortal threat that could destroy time itself. Lots of fun possibilities with that vague description. Chronos? Vandal Savage? Per Degaton? Can we travel to the future and meet the LSH or L.E.G.I.O.N? Waverider? A trip to the past for the Shining Knight? A show like this has no limits and I hope that concept is fully embraced.

Here's the announcement: http://www.superherohype.com/news/3...rrow-spinoff-dcs-legends-of-tomorrow#/slide/1

DC's Legends of Tomorrow
is the official title? Wow, that's even more awkward than Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is.

And it's not just a general hero-team show, but they're brought together for a specific mission. Not sure how I feel about that.

Plus I'm still wondering why they've included Victor Garber but not Robbie Amell -- though of the two, Garber is the far better actor, so I'm glad it's not the other way around.

If Ronnie really won't be there, then my guess is that Dr. Stein may be part of the team in more of a scientific genius support role rather than a hero.

Sure, that's easy enough to predict, but I'm not wondering what they'll do with Stein so much as why they've apparently chosen to separate him out rather than keeping him as part of Firestorm. Did Robbie Amell have another commitment? Did the producers or the network decide he wasn't working in the role? Or did they just feel that Garber was too awesome an actor to relegate to a disembodied voice most of the time?

And we still don't know what role Caity Lotz will be playing. Newsarama does theorize that she could still be playing Canary thanks to time travel shenanigans. I wouldn't be totally against that, but I wonder if they do go that route if that means they would have to keep her away from Team Arrow in order to avoid screwing up the timeline.

Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat

This totally fits my Vandal Savage as the villain theory!

I am not a big fan of this title. But I am not surprised they did not go with a existing DC team name. Nothing about this premise or group fits any we know. They want to save those for their own potential tv shows or movies. The benefit of this is they can add more Legends from through out the DC Universe. Changing out characters for different ones as the series continue.

I suspect Brave & the Bold is not something that can be trademarked. Obviously Batman : Brave and the Bold is a different situation and could not be used for this.

I was recently reminded that before The Flash in 1990, Danny Bilson and Paul De Meo had another pilot with DC characters in development at CBS. It was going to be called "Unlimited Powers" It was going to have an odd group of Barry Allen/The Flash, Green Arrow's daughter, Dr. Occult, and Blok from the Legion of Superheroes. http://thecomicscode.weebly.com/unlimited-powers.html

As far as I know the title "Unlimited Powers" still has not been used by anyone and could have easily been used for this show.

Apparently it is. In this cover, there's what looks like a registered-trademark symbol next to that title.

True, others have used the title; TrekBBS's own KRAD used it as the title of a Star Trek duology built on the "team-up" premise. But that would probably be allowable because science fiction novels aren't in direct competition with superhero comics. Trademarks don't forbid all other uses, just ones that would conflict directly with the efforts of the trademark holder.

But I don't see how it matters in this case, since we're talking about a DC Entertainment/Warner Bros. production, so they could use whatever DC trademarks they want. The reason why The Brave and the Bold wouldn't work is because it's a title that implies teamups between two or more heroes who normally operate separately, rather than a large ongoing team. (Like the Arrow episode this season where the Flash came to Starling City, or the Justice League episode focusing on a Flash/Green Lantern teamup.)

Ciara Renee who plays Hawkgirl has posted on Twitter that she and some of her fellow cast members are appearing in the season finale of The Flash.

This must have been the location shooting that Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin were spotted filming with some of them.

The're doing it again?

In the JL Cartoon, all Thanagarians were played by Latin actors, with noticeably Latin accents.
