Aron Eisenberg (Nog) suspended from Facebook over Holocaust photos

and yet I gave you an example of company using groups like Morocco for oDesk, one of the outsourcing companies used by Facebook and an example of where a foreign religious nut sitting at a computer or a Moroccan muslim moderator can use his/her position to censor freedom of speech in the United States and Europe
Morocco is not a group, it's a country.

Again... there is no obligation on the part of Facebook to protect the free speech rights of any of its users. It would be beneficial for FB users to read the ToS. :)

Nope. The only way that Facebook users can "control" the site is by choosing to leave or stay. The company is under no obligation to conform to the ravings of conspiracy theorists.
By the by "foreign team of Sharia-Law moderators" is one of the stupidest lines I have ever read.

Yeah, but ya gotta laugh a bit...especially if you are where I have been living for the last 7 years, in the Middle East, in the UAE. I know a thing or two about Shariah law.

but its only in the Middle East??

you don't think Sharia can influence US websites and censor American conversation, you don't think it can exist on the streets of France, UK or say Dearborn Michigan?

Facebook prided itself as a free and open social network where people could chat, share ideas and meet. It does not seem very free and open

what is your position on the Mohammed cartoons? Is facebook right to censor or block people for posting Mohammed cartoons

Should they censor quotes from South Park episodes or quotes from authors like Rushdie?

Bingo. The consumer's primary option when confronted by a corporation's actions that are - in their viewpoint - morally reprehensible is to refuse to financially or otherwise support that corporation.

No, WiredPlanet, respectfully, you misunderstand. Shariah law is orders of magnitude past what we in the West understand as "law". There is nothing here in the UAE and Middle East that does nor carry a deep, religious significance and belief first, and practical application, second. Everything that follows the Religious, here, is secondary. There are things that appear to resemble rule of law and guidelines we would recognize, but without religion, there is nothing that truly takes priority. It is difficult to explain without a massive tl:dr.

To your points, if Shariah can truly influence US anything, that means there are enough proponents of that collection of laws in that area or venue or mode of communication to make Shariah "the law of the land". If that sounds simplistic to you, it is, Witness the attempt to stop the madness of gun deaths or poverty or starvation or gainful employment here in our own country. We can't even get a true Budget passed.

My position on Facebook is that it absolutely positively should not exist. That said, as a private company, FB can block whatever the hell it wants, and deal with whatever consequences (if any) that arise. My own personal opinion is that any cartoon or other form of satire that ridicules icons that groups of people revere is in extremely poor taste. Kind of like, WTF?
But I accept that, in our System, it happens in Art and Literature and Posting. I do not have to like your freedom of expression, but I must respect your right to express it. And I will! And I do!

In order for something on Facebook to get blocked or deleted, someone ELSE to report it. It doesn't have moderators like a message board who patrol every single post. Generally speaking, unless there's nudity, they leave things alone.

I see all manner of things on Facebook from super liberal to super conservative. Pro-Muslim, anti-Muslim, pro-gay, anti-gay, pro-guns, anti-guns...pretty much every issue we face, I see all sides of it on Facebook, and nothing ever seems to get deleted or censored.

So I don't know what conspiracies you're trying to throw around; they're just not true. What you see on Facebook is directly related to who you're friends with.

What about blatantly racist content being actively reported and FB being all "no never mind" about that? I seriously do not get that policy. That's what irks me.

Gov Kudos I still can not read any of your posts
From my position all I see is an avatar which looks like yours and Ignored member...that is all I see from you if you quote my posts

rather than shout at a wall which refuses to respond do me a favor and put my account on ignore
I think the ignore button can be found in the top right corner of bbs and under settings
thank you and goodbye
That's really not how this works.

It's an US american company. ;) You may post any kind of racist hate you like. But never post too much of human skin or a nipple.

Oh. Okay. I'm an English person who lives in Germany and happens to be Jewish (which in Germany obviously has special significance, which is why I'm mentioning this), so I am very far removed from that kind of policy.

Thank you for clearing up something that baffling.

This makes the American-based stereotype about English people being uptight (HAHAHAHAHA) even more hilarious.

But hey, that's democracy. All kinds of racism are welcome! o.O

/sarcasm
