Aron Eisenberg Has Passed

RIP Aron Eisenberg, you will be missed.

I still remember what he wrote to me when he signed a picture for me at STLV a few years ago, he wrote "Follow Your Dreams." Good advice. I'll never forget it.

Side note: What is the proper pronunciation of his first name? Is it the same as "Aaron", or is it more like AIR-on (as I thought it was)?

David Mack wrote a beautiful tribute on Facebook:

I'm deeply saddened to learn of the passing of actor Aron Eisenberg, who died yesterday at the age of 50, leaving behind two sons and his beloved wife, Malíssa Longo.

I never had the chance to meet Aron in person, but he starred in an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine that I co-wrote. John Ordover & I wrote the story for "It's Only a Paper Moon," in which Nog copes with PTSD after surviving a terrible injury in combat.

Ronald D. Moore and the rest of the DS9 writing staff made that script the best it could be, but Aron bore the greatest burden in bringing it to life. His performance in "Paper Moon" was exquisite.

Even now, more than two decades after "It's Only a Paper Moon" aired, I still get fan mail from soldiers and those who treat veterans with serious combat injuries -- thanking me for my part in writing that story.

In truth, Aron deserves most of the praise for the emotional impact of "It's Only a Paper Moon." It was his first-hand knowledge of pain and mortality that made his performance so authentic, and so affecting.

Aron Eisenberg and I were friends on Facebook, and I always admired his idealism and his courage. He was not afraid to argue with those who hated everything he loved. He never backed down. He was a man of principle and passion.

The world is poorer for the passing of Aron Eisenberg, but so much richer for having been graced by his life. As Jack B. Sowards wrote in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, "He's not really gone--as long as we remember him." Let's make sure we always remember Aron.

So incredible sad. :wah:

I liked him. he really portrayed Nog in the best possible way.

RIP Aron.

RIP. The world is diminished.
(Nog was one of my favorite DS9 characters, swimming upstream against everyone's expectations.)

I'm so gutted by this. I loved Bob's character arc, it was an inspiration. His podcast was fun, and he seemed like a great guy that had immense compassion and genuinely cared. I recently responded to a Facebook post of his and he took the time to like it... I think he usually liked or replied to fans in social media. I hope he knew his impact to the fans and that he was beloved.

Wow, this is almost a little creepy, because I actually just watched It's Only A Paper Moon as part of my DS9 rewatch this morning.
Very sad to hear about this, I always really liked Nog and Eisenberg did a great job.

I know the feeling. For no particular reason other than that it was where my mood was I'd been rewatching some DS9 episodes, though I hadn't looked at "Heart of Stone" or "Paper Moon". I did rewatch "In the Cards" a while back though, and it's great watching Nog play straight man to Jake's increasingly unhinged performance...and just as great when the shoe is somewhat on the other foot in "Treachery, Faith and the Great River".

But I really wish I'd had almost any other reason to want to rewatch the first two. :weep:

Terrible news. Best wishes to his family and friends. :(

Thought Nog was great. One of DS9's better character arcs for sure.
