Cool in real life you or someone you know is a Marine :)

though in case those are not photoshopped into that picture How much for one of those?

All of the artwork is really great, but I'm particularly impressed by the combadges. Keep up the excellent work!

I've known a few marines in my day, but that didn't really influence how I did it. I looked at symbols of Marine units from all over the world to try to come up with a consistent trait that could be integrated with the Star Trek look.

Those are photoshops, I'm afraid. Though it would be cool to own a real one, heh.

Nice job! Love the marine logo. Have you ever read any of the Honor Harrington books by David Weber?

I've heard of them, but haven't read any. Do they use marines or something?

Glad you like them, mate.

I really like the practicality of the uniform variations, especially with the communicator effectively doubling as a qualifications badge. I only thing I could change would be to move the enlisted stripes up to the biceps.

They do have marines, yes. It's just a very rich sci-fi universe with a lot of these little details and strong naval tradition built in. I do artwork for a company that has license for products based on the HH books and have done a lot of similar work to what you're doing but for the Honorverse stuff.

Anyway, the first few books are free to read online, you might like them. The first one, called On Basilisk Station can be got here.

Again, great work on all of this!

I haven't worked too much on this project lately. Basically what happened is I started to work on a side view for Britannic and it sucked and I got discouraged. Then I got sidetracked by an ancillary project to this one.

This little transporter beacon (approximately actual size) I drew because of the needs of a mission we were doing. Basically you slap it on to what you want to get a good solid transport lock on, activate it and it'll extend its arms to affix itself properly and then you've got a nice solid signal to beam whatever it is out.

The task force Ark Royal is leading into the area of space we're in, includes a Federation Army peacekeeper unit. Not SF Marines, but Federation Army - an entirely different service.

I meant to get much further along with this project before showing anything from it, but I figure I owe you guys something for being so kind.

The images are pretty self-explanatory. For the uniforms, I wanted something that felt like it belonged to the same 'family' as the current Starfleet uniforms, produced by the same culture, but with a distinct look of its own since it's an entirely different service.

Hope you like.

Re: Ark Royal Stuff - Misc. Illustrations

Well, he/she certainly wouldn't do it by tapping it. :) I would assume for it it would be voice (or click/whistle) activated. But the communicator there wouldn't be a detachable badge. It's built into the design of the suit. There'd be an identical one on the other side.

And I think I answered this earlier, but the dolphin's rank is Ensign, as you can see from the pop before the badge. :)

Re: Ark Royal Stuff - Misc. Illustrations

You wouldn't by chance happen to have done any interiors for the Akira, have you?

Re: Ark Royal Stuff - Misc. Illustrations

Not yet, really. Did a bridge a while back, but I'm no longer satisifed with it.

Re: Ark Royal Stuff - Misc. Illustrations

I haven't done too much on the Akira side of things lately, but I did play around with the Army side since our taskforce has an army detachment.

I wanted them to look and feel distinctly different from Starfleet, but part of the same culture. The rank scheme is a hybrid. It's primarily the British/Commonwealth/European scheme, with a bit of the Nato-style as well.

Hope you guys find them interesting.

...this is the first time I've checked this thread out, it's very impressive. And I agree w/Willsbabe, it is worldbuilding!
