Are you shitting me? No Gary Mitchell in this film?

No Gary Mitchell?!

How can that be?! In Where No Man's Gone Before, he has known Kirk since his StarFleet Acad. days. He is the helmsmen on the ship, and I believe the Executive Officer also (before Spock took that position).

How the hell can they write a script and not include Gary Mitchell? He was such an important charater in the first episode, where Kirk had to make a choice, kill off his best friend or the Enterprise. It was a real growth episode fro Kirk, and we were able to see his loyality to his troop rather than to his best friend....

None of the large assortment of characters that had a bearing on the lives of the original cast exist in this movie, they don't cut Abrams "kewl" factor for the new movie-verse so they're out.

Save it for a sequel or something. This movie has a ton of characters to worry about already.

gary mitchell would make for a great character in a sequel. a pre-fab tragic hero. what more can you ask for? (i probably shouldn't ask that question around here)

It's easy -- the 20 minutes of screentime that we see Kirk at the Academy will be 20 minutes that he didn't interact with Mitchell. And since the scenes on the Enterprise occurs before WNMHGB, perhaps Mitchell wasn't assigned to the ship yet at that point.

We're not entirely sure he ISN'T in the movie. Besides, who knew Quark had a deleted cameo at the end of INSURRECTION until after the movie came and went? Or that Wesley was at Deanna and Will's wedding at the start of NEMESIS until someone pointed him out? Maybe Gary's there and just a quick canonical bone/afterthought?

yes, like a teaser for the next film. at the end, gary is assigned to the enterprise to replace some of the crew who died in ST09. like the final scene could be kirk giving gary a bear hug.

I thought Gary Mitchell was a conceited jerk (did not like the character), so I don't have a problem with them not including him in XI or any subsequent movies.

Quit making sense like that........you're going to throw people off. ;)

Just wanted to post that I agree that Gary should have been in the film, but I've accepted his loss as a side-effect of streamlining the story for the film.
