Are You Racist?

I think I had the most racist results so far. Do I get a prize?

An invitation to Nick Griffin's house for tea?

:p

Oh. And here I was, going for "smart-ass".

I think you nailed it with this one. ;)

But I do get irrationally (who, me?) nervous if I have to talk to someone from a non-English-speaking country because I worry I won't understand them
Yoo will-a ahnderstand-a me goodd-a, signora! :p

Is that racist?

So I finally took it. It told me:
Your data suggest little to no automatic preference between European American and African American.

Take the Implicit Association Test and tell me your results. No cheating! Just do the test as quickly as possible to get accurate results. Tell me if the link doesn't work.

An alternate link to try is this and click through till you can choose the Race Test.

The test doesn't prove much of anything and there are too many other variables to suggest a "race preference." Having said that my results were neutral, but I couldn't keep from ignoring the "good/bad" option when race was also present.

No, just inaccurate. There is no such a thing as "spaghetti bolognese". (shudder, shudder)

To be fair, they're only advertising the bolognese sauce, rather than the spaghetti dish specifically. You could just as easily use it in a lasagne...

...mmmm... racist lasagne...

I was rated as having a moderate preference for European Americans. I do not contest that allegation. I am not a racist, but without doubt, I share more default affinity with white races than with black people. Certainly, I strongly prefer European culture over African American culture. It isn't a one-race-is-better-than-another kind of thing as much as the fact that I like the Opera but can't muster any passion for 50 cent no matter how much I try.

As far as associating black people with good or bad and visa versa, that test just shows faces. In real life, we judge people based on far, far more than just part of their face. If I see black males acting like gangsters by the bus stop, that elicits a kind of race-stereotype, because almost every time I see that kind of activity, it is a black male that is doing it. On the same scale though, I have had black people, both male and female, as bosses before, and I had nothing but respect for them because they were professional and acted like normal human beings.

In the end, we may have a subconscious autonomic response for or against a certain race or set of features, but in the end it is the person, the person's attitude and way of carrying his/herself that determines whether we react with trust or seek distance. The test, while interesting, fails to incorporate all the variables necessary to define the more complex matter of inter-racial interaction in America.

I got

Your data suggest little to no automatic preference between European American and African American.

I got the same result with the Arab/other people test.

Your data suggest a strong automatic preference for European American compared to African American.

*Shrug* Well personally I think the data was skewed by my right hand orientation. But to be honest I have never had a single black friend so maybe the test result is true. Don't think I am a racist since I harbor no particular hatred to black people. Or maybe my reading of the human biodiversity blog Half-Sigma has distorted my brain since I remember the last time I took the test I only exhibited little or no preference for European American.

The site won't load up for me, citing an error with the browser. I tried with both Firefox and Safari, but no luck. This may lead one to the conclusion that my computer is racist against quiz websites, but I would argue that it's not. It has lots of quiz website friends...
