Are you gonna buy the Fan Collective: Captain's Log DVD....

Re: Are you gonna buy the Fan Collective: Captain's Log DVD.

Actually, TATV is the only reason I *might* pick this up.

Re: Are you gonna buy the Fan Collective: Captain's Log DVD.

I'm never buying a fan collective unless it ends up in a bargain barrel for a pittance and I'm feeling all sentimental. I intend to buy it all on DVD. I have DS9 now and VOY is coming out in the cheaper format in August.

Re: Are you gonna buy the Fan Collective: Captain's Log DVD.

Yes. I'll buy it. I already own all previous Fan Collectives and love them. They're great for us fans who can't afford or just don't want to buy the whole season sets.

Seconded. I just picked it up yesterday, for $36.99 (Canadian) and got through the first disc last night. Oddly enough, all the previous sets I bought (Borg, Time Travel and Klingon sets--no Q, as I find him annoying as hell for the most part) cost more, like 45-50 dollars per set.

The packaging has been improved from those notebook style DVD holders--now it's five discs in 3 slim cases, which is much better. The menus look better and there's actually some extras beyond an Okuda text commentary.

I really liked Shatner and Joan Collins' little conversation before 'City on the Edge of Forever' and other than the very questionable inclusion of TATV (people really voted for that episode?), all the episodes are pretty decent.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with this set.

Mmmm, I wonder whether somebody who actually works for the StarTrek.com site can shed any light on how the voting went? Any directive from CBS that it went in regardless? I'd really like to know what percentage of fans voted for TATV.

Who knows it might help me understand what the heck they saw in it... :p

VOY is coming out in cheaper format outside the US?

Re: Are you gonna buy the Fan Collective: Captain's Log DVD.

I just bought it, and I'm liking it. Like many others, I just can't plum afford to buy every single DVD, and this is an acceptable compromise. While I've been VERY annoyed that these collections have often repeated episodes, which has discouraged me from ever getting the Time Travel collection for example, the three I have (Q, Borg, and now this one) are appreciated parts of my collection.

And yes, I'm wondering why the hell TATV is there. In Bakula's introduction, he's got this wierd look on his face that seems to shout "Really..?!" while he struggles to find good things to say about the episode. :P Another questionable choice would have to be "In Theory", which is much more about Data than Picard's joyride in the shuttlepod. Obviously it's because Stewart directed the episode and has fond memories of the experience, but still - I felt that their choices should reflect the actors' *character's* best moments in their opinion.

Picard never flew a "shuttlepod". ;)

Re: Are you gonna buy the Fan Collective: Captain's Log DVD.

Yeah, I'll probably buy it. I own all 3 seasons of TOS, season 5 of DS9 (mainly for "Trials & Tibble-ations"),the Picard set for TNG, S4 of ENT and none of VOY.

I wouldn't mind having copies of "Far Beyond The Stars" and "Flashback" on DVD.

And who the hell voted for "These Are the Voyages?" Why? WHY? WHY?!?

Re: Are you gonna buy the Fan Collective: Captain's Log DVD.

Start a thread over at the startrek.com boards and ask them.

Re: Are you gonna buy the Fan Collective: Captain's Log DVD.

I picked the set up today at Wal-Mart, $29!

Who votes on these anyway? Some of them I dont understand...

Not surprised Brooks picked "Far Beyond the Stars" he often talks of that episode. One of my favorites too actually.

And why did Brooks not do the interview?? The other four are listed but not him? Does he really hate Trek or what?

Re: Are you gonna buy the Fan Collective: Captain's Log DVD.

Brooks has several interviews on it does he not? Memory Alpha lists them as
"A Captain and a Father"
"Sisko as Emissary"
"Directing"
"Imagining the Future"
"Social Commentary"
"Aspirations"
"Star Trek's Impact"

Re: Are you gonna buy the Fan Collective: Captain's Log DVD.

But are those new interviews or recycled clips?

Every interview I've ever seen of Brooks seems to come from the same years old one.

He (or his agent) took a stand once before about promotional interviews, stock footage and remuneration. He had no participation in "DS9: Behind the Scenes", the Beck-Ola documentary made after DS9's first year, to the extent that Sisko is not even seen in it!

But why??

Re: Are you gonna buy the Fan Collective: Captain's Log DVD.

OI own all the others, so yeah, I'll get it. Apart from the fact that I'm kind of a casual fan who can't afford the season boxes. I like the idea of owning most of my favorite episodes without having to pay for all the crappy ones as well. :)

Re: Are you gonna buy the Fan Collective: Captain's Log DVD.

^^ditto!! I have all of DS9 becuase I was lucky enough to find them at a pawn shop for twenty bucks each!
I really wish they would go down in price soon!!

I have to wait until September 24, when it's released on Region 2 (UK/Europe)...

...but from the looks of this, it's newly filmed.

Those are Christies' auction items behind Avery Brooks, I believe. The tags are visable.
