Are we likely to see an original cut of Rogue One? (possible spoilers)

It's well known that Rogue One had a ton of reshoots, potentially up to 30% of the movie was ditched, changing Jyn's character and more importantly, the final battle. Lots of this footage appeared in the trailers; in fact the first teaser trailer is mostly comprised of material that didn't make it into the final cut.

Do you think Disney will ever release this footage?

I know it's likely to be similar to the original cut of A New Hope but not as legendary. :)

We might see some deleted material that doesn't contradict the story as it exists in he finished cut of the film, but I doubt they'd release anything that flat out contradicts the finished movie. (As several of the scenes hinted at in the trailers do.)

I'd love to see the original cut of Rogue One in its entirety, though. Especially with Desplat's original score.

I'd like to see the original cut and I suspect most of its complete becuase no doubt the reshoots where done after a cut of the film had been reviewed. The best we can hope for is to see them as bonus material on the BR/DVD release.

Well we know the ending wasn't changed.

At some point in production the building with the plans and the comm tower were combined into one.

Do we? The trailers had Jyn and Cassian running on the beach during the battle while carrying the plans, so something significant during the ending was changed.

It looks like (this is a theory) they just combined the bunker with the plans and comm tower into the same building, so those scenes were cut. If you look at the trailers where they're running on the beach, they're running towards the Comm Tower.

The TIE Fighter hovering in front of the control panel was changed because they thought it was too similar to the X-Wing taking out AT-ACT scene from Earlier.

I think the Whitaker scene could've been another flashback, perhaps with their parting of the ways, as there's some set photos of her with Whitaker having the same look as in the opening scenes-although it's also possible these were early versions of the Jedha scenes.

If Disney axed release of the original cut; and after seeing it, paid for 30% or more of the film to be reshot and re-edited -- nope.

I don't think they want that version of the film to get in front of any audience, ever.

If the reshoots were because the original was deemed too dark, well.... sign me up to see the original cut!

It seems that the changes to the Scarith battle were to make it more tightly focused. Like we lose the redundant TIE fighter shot, I imagine that it must have been "too much" to have them running back and forth between towers. I would have liked to see them do something with that beachhead shot, but overall I'm happy with this cut.

I heard on the Screen Junkies analysis of the altered scenes (and I think one other place) that the TIE rising up to face Jyn on the transmitter tower was never intended to happen that way in the film to begin with, and was not removed during the reshoots. The TIE was added in by the trailer production company Trailer Park and then the FX were touched up by ILM in order to add to the fairly mundane scene of Jyn walking out on the tower balcony to the control panel, all strictly for the trailer. The TIE was added purely to generate excitement and was never going to be in the film.

That kind of bugs me, since it was such an iconic scene and made you wonder "How is she going to get out of this one?" because it definitely had the look of her walking towards her own death. Not that it mattered for her anyway, but it's one thing to make minor changes to a trailer's dialogue for the sake of making it more coherent in explaining the premise or something, but you shouldn't add in major developments you have no intention of following through on.

Wookieepedia said Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that the story didn't change in the Reshoots, but they don't give a source.

Numerous news articles have since disproven all such rumors. According to the EW, there were no test screenings on Rogue One, nor are any likely to occur on a Star Wars movie. The dark and gritty tone had been preserved, and the reshoots had dealt more with with character development rather than the plotline. According to Kathleen Kennedy, "There's nothing about the story that's changing, with a few things that we're picking up in additional photography. I think that's the most important thing, to reassure fans that it's the movie we intended to make.

There was new info in a interview a month back.

The following scenes were added during the pick ups:
The scene with Cassian meeting the informant
the scenes of Jyn in the cell and being 'rescued' from the Imperial Transport
The scene of Bohdi being captured trying to find Saw

Which seems to line up with the reshoots dealing with 'character development' like the above quote says.

Most of the reshoots were in the last third, but they didn't say what was changed.
