Are Vanilla Master Cards really a ripoff?

^ Not if one pays off the balance in full every month like one should, no.

Ah, but they will try to trick you by changing the due date every month. If I didn't pay online, I'd be late half the time. I sometimes get my paper statement less than a week before the bill is due. Chase are the worst offenders.

I get free gas with my Visa so I would say anything else is a rip off. Pay the bill of a the end of the month like you should and you actually do gain something. Don't ever leave a balance on one of those cards, you would be just as well of borrowing from a loan shark with those rates. I still don't know why we bailed out the banks. Look at what your card interest rate is and what the interest rate is that they give on a savings account. They give you like 1% and charge up to 27% on the card. My god they are making monstrous sums of money.

Huh.

I use BofA and my due date has consistently been the 12th of every month for the last 11 years.

That's why one should always pay online and go paperless. :techman:

He's right about Chase though. I've had them change the due date on me several times. Fortunately I pay early and pay online as well.

Yeah, like I said, I pay my cards online, but if I didn't I'd be screwed. They're counting on people who don't have the internet to pay it late. Sometimes there's up to a week's difference in due dates.

I had one of these once. I think there is a clause related to balance. They are not reloadable, and if there is a balance on the card 6 months after activation they start deducting a 2.50 "balance fee" every month. If you get one use it right away. If you give one, advise the recipient to use it right away.
Plus depending on the "type" it might not be usable everywhere-- online and brick and mortar, or might require activation in order to use it.

Just what I advised this guy at this post on this board, but he and everybody else called me a 'corporate shill' and a ton of other nasty names. :wtf:

The guy wants to sue the company on behalf of his mom, who was given a card as a holiday gift.
