Re: Are there any reasonably good Hallmark minseries or movies out the
I just got Hercules, i already wathed Merlin and i vaguelly remember the Dynotopia series. Why is the 10th kingdom so good?
Alright, there is a difference between the Dinotopia miniseries and tv series. The mini came first, had a bigger budget and (for the most part) better cast. It was also self-contained. The tv series came later, was noticeably cheaper, with a D-list cast playing the characters from the mini. It was campy fun, but wasn't great.
The 10th Kingdom is one of the longer minis out there, running 10 hours when it aired ... It's around 7 on DVD. The gist of it is that there are 10 fairtytale kingdoms out there, and you can travel between the kingdoms through portals, also known as mirrors.
The Brothers Grimm fell through one of those portals - one in a park in New York City - and all of their stories were based on characters and events they had experienced in these other kingdoms.
Cinderella is still around. Only she's 200 years old, played by Ann Margaret (pretty much an all-star cast, btw), and when she coughs, dust comes out. Rutgar Hauer is the Huntsman. The Wicked Queen? Dianne Weist. Snow White - as a ghost - is Camryn Mannheim.
A young woman - early 20s - and her father - played by John Larroquette - fall through this portal and have no clue how to react when they meet the trolls ... the Troll King? Al Bundy.
It's hilarious, and a new take on the fairytales of old. Big budget, great cast, and a fun romp through the kingdoms.
