Are there any "new classic" X-Men stories?

The amount of love for 90s era Xmen comics here is surprising. I thought that those books were universally reviled, especially Onslaught and the Heroes Reborn stuff. Ah well, I'm glad someone enjoyed those books, but for me those books are the reason I swore off comic books for a while. I didn't start reading again until the Avengers Disassembled stuff and House of M.

Onslaught was ok, but a bit "overdone".

Heroes Reborn sucked because by then the Image creators had been reading WAY too many of their own press releases.

The two GOOD things to come out of HR were Heroes' RETURN, and of course the Thunderbolts.

I remember really liking the Jim Lee Fantastic Four (though I was completely unfamiliar with the original FF). Also didn't the Mark Waid / Ron Garney run on Captain America start with Heroes Return? I loved that run, it's the only time I've read Cap.

It was cut in two by it, actually; Waid/Garney was cancelled to make way for Liefeld's take, and then brought back once everybody came to their senses.

I recall the Liefeld Cap being absolutely awful and I'm not that picky :D Who did the art on the Avengers? I know Whilce Portacio did Iron Man which I don't remember well but recall enjoying.

I really enjoyed the Sean Chen pencilled Iron Man and even before that Portacio did a bangup job, I never enjoyed shell head more with those 2 pencilling... and then when Kurt Busiek worked his mojo on both Iron Man and the Avengers... good lord and then George Perez doing the art chores... masterpieces.

I think honestly the Churchill X-Titles were decent, but I wished upon wished that Busiek and Chen and Perez would do X-Men. I loved Chen's work on X-Men:The End
